“Garry, I saved your life. So, do you owe me a favor now?” Theresia asked, her tone light but her eyes serious.
Garry caught on right away. “I owe you more than a favor, Teresa. I owe you my life. What do you want from me?”
Theresia didn’t bother sugarcoating it. She told him exactly what she wanted.
Garry went quiet for a few moments, letting it sink in. “You want me to find someone who looks like that head nurse, and then help you get her out?”
Theresia’s lips curled into a small smile. “It’s not easy for me, but I trust you. With your skills, I know you won’t let me down.”
He looked at her, almost amused. “So this is you calling in your debt?”
Theresia never pretended to be someone she wasn’t. She didn’t try to act noble or hide her ambition. She answered honestly, “You could see it that way.”
For a second, Garry didn’t know what to say. Her directness threw him off in the best way.
A slow smile spread across his face. “Teresa, you didn’t come all this way just to ask for a favor, did you?”
Actually, that wasn’t the only reason. She’d already planned to bring him medicine after getting Carl’s call at Helena’s place. He’d helped her before. Of course she would come. She just hadn’t expected to use up her favor so soon.
Theresia shook her head. “No, that’s not it.”
Garry’s smile grew even warmer, his eyes softening as if he couldn’t hide his affection. “Theresia, I like that answer.”
It was such a simple thing to say, but her cheeks warmed anyway. Was he flirting with her?
Warren practically beamed at Theresia. “Teresa, you’re incredible. If I weren’t playing nurse for Garry, I’d definitely ask you to join me for a drink.”
Most of the time, Theresia just smiled in response, but it was tough to keep up with Warren’s endless chatter.
Finally, Garry couldn’t take it anymore. “Warren, get in here.”
Warren stood up right away. “Teresa, enjoy your meal. I’ll go check on Garry.”
“Alright,” Theresia replied.
With Warren gone, the sudden quiet felt like a gift. She was about to relax when her phone buzzed with a video from Farris. Curious, she clicked it open, only to see Eric’s smug, insincere face staring back at her.
