His voice was soft, gentle, like water flowing—soothing and warm. Theresia felt it settle deep inside her, sending quiet ripples through her heart.
After everything she’d been through over the years, all the hard days and lonely nights, no one had ever asked her if it was tough. She’d never even asked herself. She just kept moving, surviving, never pausing to wonder if it was all too much.
And now, out of nowhere, a man who wasn’t even really a friend was the first to say those words.
Was it hard?
Yeah, it was. It had been so hard.
She had fought for every step. Nothing about her journey had been easy.
Theresia pressed her lips together, feeling something unfamiliar squeeze her chest. She took a deep breath to steady herself, and when she pushed Garry away this time, her eyes were clear again. No more tears, no more confusion.
She was back to being unbreakable, the woman who never let anything get to her.
“This is my path,” she said quietly. “No matter what happens, I have to walk it all the way.”
Garry looked at her, meeting her gaze. His face was calm, almost casual, but she could sense the worry hiding behind his eyes. He slid his hands into his pockets and gave her a gentle, understanding smile. “Yeah. I know.”
They said goodbye in the parking lot. As soon as Garry got into his car, he pulled out his phone and called Warren.
He watched through the windshield as Theresia’s car pulled out of the lot, and his face turned cold again, all emotion locked away.
Warren picked up on the first ring. “Garry, what do you need?”
Garry’s voice was steady. “I don’t want to see any news stories about what happened at the anniversary event today. Make sure it stays quiet.”
“Got it,” Warren replied. “I’ll take care of everything.”
Theresia didn’t think much of the drama at the celebration. Still, since it was about her, she paid a little more attention than usual.
Normally, a story like that would be all over the internet by now. Especially with someone like Patti involved—she loved turning little things into big scandals.
But today? Silence. Everything was calm. Not a single rumor or post.
“She’s never run a business before. If it wasn’t so hard to find a job these days, I’d have left a long time ago.”
The Vector Navigation guys glanced at each other, eyebrows raised.
One of them leaned over to the receptionist. “Is your company really having that much trouble?”
The receptionist let out a long sigh. “Honestly, things are rough. Ever since Teresa took over GlobalSpan Logistics and bought Kingsport, we’ve had cash flow problems. She borrowed everything to buy the port. Jumped in without really understanding how this world works. I’m not surprised we’re struggling now. Selling thirty percent is just a quick fix so we can stay afloat.”
The two visitors nodded, the situation making more sense. They followed the receptionist into the reception room.
About fifteen minutes later, Theresia finally walked in.
“Sorry to keep you waiting,” she said with a polite smile.
Acton, the general manager, and Freddy, the marketing director, stood up to greet her. Both wore easy smiles, and Freddy was quick to speak.
“No worries at all, Teresa. We know you’re busy. We’re just glad you made time for us.”
