He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 2

Three years of marriage. She used to think it would save her, but now it all just felt like one big joke.

Her heart ached, sharp and raw, as if someone was tearing it apart.

About half an hour later, Theresia stepped out of the hospital room. She kept one hand braced against the wall, the other gripping her cane. When she reached an open space, she paused, her head turning automatically toward the other side of the hall.

She couldn’t see, not anymore, but in these three years, the rest of her senses had gotten sharper. She caught a familiar scent in the air.

Lawrence was just a few steps away, talking on his phone.

He noticed her, said something quick to whoever was on the line, and then hung up. He walked straight toward her.

Everyone always called Lawrence a gentleman.

That was the first thing she’d ever thought about him, back when she still had her sight.

With that usual faint smile, Lawrence reached for her hand, his voice gentle and warm. “Why are you out here? Your hands are freezing. The weather’s colder now. Didn’t the housekeeper get you an extra sweater?”

Theresia stared off into the distance, her eyes unfocused. Almost instantly, she pulled her hand away from his.

Lawrence’s brow creased. “What’s wrong? Are you mad at me?”

He moved closer and wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her gently against him. His scent filled her nose, and his voice turned soft and careful. “Who upset you? Tell me, and I’ll handle it.”

A new ache stabbed at Theresia’s heart.

Lawrence, don’t you realize it might be you?

Her body shivered in his arms, but she forced herself to calm down. She turned slightly toward him and spoke quietly. “The nurse said I’m pregnant. It’s your fault, you know. You kept me up all night... What if something happens to the baby?”

Lawrence cut her off before she finished, his face suddenly serious. “Don’t talk like that. Our baby will be just fine, strong and healthy. I promise, I won’t let anything happen to them.”

He always looked so polished and gentle, but when it came to her, Lawrence was possessive, almost wild. Theresia knew he didn’t love her, not really. He just wanted her body.

Suddenly, his arms tightened around her waist. His voice was the most serious she’d ever heard. “Theresia, I won’t ever let you leave me.”

Why? she wondered.

Is it because you’re afraid I’ll ruin Patti’s happiness? Or is it just because you love her so much?

She pressed her lips together and said nothing.

But at this point, what could he do? She didn’t want him anymore.

Not at all.

Still, there were things she needed to take care of before she left.

The people who hurt her… they couldn’t just walk away like nothing happened.
