He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 3

Theresia didn’t act any differently than usual. Lawrence, on the other hand, was suddenly extra attentive. It was obvious why. The baby changed everything.

Lawrence had always believed he’d never have a child of his own, not with his condition. Theresia’s pregnancy felt like a miracle, just as Daniel had said. A real gift from fate.-

He didn’t love her. She knew that. But he wanted this baby more than anything. Until the child arrived, he couldn’t risk anything happening to her.

He helped her ease onto the sofa, then turned to the housekeeper. “Susan, Theresia is pregnant now. From here on out, be careful with everything. Her meals, her clothes, her whole routine. Don’t let anything go wrong.”

Susan nodded right away and hurried off to start planning meals for Theresia.

Lawrence leaned down, kissed her forehead, and rested his hand gently on her belly. “Theresia, I never thought I’d get to be someone’s dad. Thank you for giving me this chance. From now on, you and our baby are my whole world. I love you.”

His words stung. There was something almost cruel about them.

If she and the baby were so important, then what about Patti, the woman he really loved?

Lawrence liked to put on a good show. Fine. She’d play her part until it was time to leave.

The next morning, Lawrence left for work early.

Susan followed his orders to the letter, making sure every meal was packed with nutrients. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, she didn’t miss a beat.

She set a bowl in front of Theresia and passed her a pair of chopsticks. “Today’s breakfast is bird’s nest porridge. Right in front of you, steamed cod with egg custard. On your left, stir-fried lettuce. On your right, a croissant.”

Theresia set her chopsticks down and looked ahead. “Susan, could you help me post something on Twitter? I want to share my news.”

“Of course,” Susan said.

After a while, she settled onto the swing and dialed her best friend.

She asked her to help apply to an art school overseas, book her a flight for two weeks from now, and, most importantly, start looking for a cornea donor.

She’d give herself two weeks to take care of everything.

In the days that followed, Lawrence was completely absorbed in preparing for the baby. He had people decorate the nursery, bought stacks of toys and baby gear, and even picked up a book called How to Be a Good Father.

He clearly cared about this child. She just wondered if the baby would ever mean more to him than Patti did.

Theresia kept busy, too. She quietly got rid of all the gifts Lawrence had ever given her.
