He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 203

"You just barely escaped death, and the first thing you do is start worrying about another guy?" Hanson looked at her like she was unbelievable.

Helena rolled her eyes. "Why are you so annoying? Just go ask like I told you. Why are you making such a fuss?"

Hanson pouted, clearly put out. "Alright, alright. I’ll call him right now, happy?"

The second Hanson stepped out to make the call, Helena slid closer to Teresa, her face practically glowing with gossip. "Teresa, I’ve never seen you act like this over a guy. You were never this nervous about Jared or Lawrence."

Was she nervous? Teresa hadn’t even noticed.

She brushed it off. "He helped me out. It’s only fair I check on him."

Helena narrowed her eyes. "That sounds reasonable, but I don’t know... Something feels off." She stared at Teresa, making her squirm in her seat.

Suddenly, Helena leaned in. "Wait. Teresa, are you into Garry?"

Teresa shot her down right away. "No. Don’t be ridiculous."

"Then why are you blushing?"

"It’s hot in here."

"You look kind of guilty though."

"Maybe your eyesight’s getting worse."

"No way. There’s definitely something you’re not telling me."

...

Hanson came back after a while, phone in hand.

The painting was dark and heavy, the colors so deep it almost felt suffocating.

When Lawrence caught sight of the words "Gate of Hell," he let out a bitter laugh. "I wanted to spend my life with you, but you just wanted me dead."

After he found out Acton’s daughter had been rescued, Lawrence actually had a chance to run. If he’d left Harrisburg, he could have started over somewhere else. But he couldn’t let Teresa go. Even when Aaron tried to talk him out of it, Lawrence insisted on bringing her with him. He slashed her tires, pretended to be a cab driver, and tried to take her away.

The whole city was hunting for him back then. No one understood the risk better than he did, but it didn’t matter. He had to leave with her.

His eyes burned with a twisted sort of longing. "Teresa, the reason I lost everything is because I loved you too much."

He didn’t regret any of it. Even if he could go back, Lawrence would make the same choice all over again.

A crooked smile tugged at his lips. He wasn’t afraid of dying. His only regret was not making Teresa fall in love with him again.

After a long, quiet moment, Teresa finally stood up.
