"Okay," Teresa said right away.
With the plan set, she quickly messaged Davina, who practically squealed with excitement on the phone and couldn't stop thanking her. They agreed to head out in two days.
Teresa mentioned the trip to Veridian to Naomi and asked if she wanted to come along. Naomi shook her head, saying she was getting too old for long trips.
Teresa let it go. Still, she thought about how quiet Naomi's days must be, always at home by herself. On a whim, she signed Naomi up for some classes at the senior center, hoping it would help make her days a little brighter.
In no time, departure day arrived. Dave drove Davina to the airport, waiting with her until she made it through security. He had work back in Harrisburg and couldn't tag along, but as soon as he found out Teresa would be traveling with Davina, he stopped worrying.
The flight was four hours, but it flew by. Teresa and Davina got deep into conversation about art, swapping ideas and stories until they landed in Veridian before they even realized it.
As they rolled their suitcases out of the airport, a stunningly handsome man waved at them, then strode over with an easy confidence.
He hugged Davina, took her suitcase, then turned to Teresa with a smile. "Aunt, aren't you going to introduce me to this beautiful lady?"
Davina beamed with pride, pulling Teresa closer. "This is Teresa, the friend I told you about on the phone. Isn't she gorgeous?"
"Hi, I'm Parrish," he said, reaching out his hand.
Teresa smiled back, calm and gracious. "Hi, I'm Teresa."
Davina's gaze bounced between the two of them before she shot Parrish a look. "Parrish, help Teresa with her luggage."
Parrish snapped to attention, reaching for Teresa's suitcase.
"That's really sweet, but I can manage," Teresa tried.
Parrish just shook his head, determined. "You're my aunt's friend, so you're my friend. Teresa, really, let me."
Without waiting for an answer, he headed into the hotel.
Teresa had no choice but to follow.
They checked in together, chatting and laughing as they waited for the elevator.
Meanwhile, a man had just come downstairs from the restaurant. He stood in the gorgeous hotel lobby, his eyes locked on Teresa and Parrish as they walked away.
