He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 31

Across the river, Patti handed Lawrence his phone back.

“Did you call Leila?” he asked, sounding casual.

Patti claimed her own phone had died, so she’d borrowed Lawrence’s. She pretended she was checking in with her family, but really, she’d used the call to mess with Theresia.

She nodded, but her mind was somewhere else entirely.

What did Theresia mean with that last comment? What was she really trying to say?

Lawrence noticed Patti seemed distracted and figured she was still upset about not getting chosen as Moses’s student.

“I’ll take you home in a bit,” he offered.

That snapped Patti out of it. She quickly slipped her arm through his and pouted, “No, don’t. I’ve got plans with friends tonight. Lawrence, come with me, please? If you’re there, I won’t have to worry about drinking too much.”

Lawrence looked at her, the girl he’d always adored. With her hopeful eyes on him, he just couldn’t bring himself to say no.

But wasn’t Theresia still waiting for him back at the club?

“I should call Theresia first,” he said.

Right in front of Patti, Lawrence dialed Theresia’s number.

A robotic voice came through the line, cold and final. “Sorry, the number you dialed is powered off.”

Lawrence’s face fell, his mood turning sour in an instant.

Patti jumped at the chance to stir the pot. “Do you think she’s ignoring your calls on purpose? Lawrence, I don’t know... Theresia’s been pretty moody lately, hasn’t she? Maybe she thinks she can do whatever she wants now that she’s pregnant with your baby.”

She huffed to herself. Theresia was definitely getting too full of herself, acting out more and more.

A wave of irritation rose in Lawrence’s chest. He decided right then he wasn’t going to let this slide. Theresia was starting to push his buttons.

He slipped his phone into his pocket and didn’t bother dialing again. “Let’s go.”

Patti grinned, satisfied that her plan had worked.

Whatever Theresia meant by her words, Patti wasn’t about to lose.

It was well past one in the morning when Theresia finally got back to Verdant Heights.

She let out a cold laugh and tore the sketchbook to pieces, page after page.

Right now, the only thing she felt was that Lawrence didn’t deserve her affection. He definitely didn’t deserve her love.

She set the “surprise” she’d prepared in the most obvious spot.

This is my last gift to you, Lawrence. I bet you’ll love it.

Dragging her suitcase downstairs, Theresia saw Susan’s eyes go wide. “Theresia, what’s going on…?”

“I’m going to stay with the Bakers for a few days,” Theresia answered, sounding like it was no big deal. “Did you get that water ready?”

“Oh, yes, I’ll bring it right over.”

Susan handed her a big, steaming kettle.

Theresia took it out to the garden. The smell of tulips seemed even stronger here. Her face went cold. Without a word, she poured the boiling water over every single tulip bed.
