He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 70

“Leila, are you trying to kill me?” Eric’s voice was sharp, anger practically radiating from him.

Leila didn’t say a word. Eric just shook his head, completely fed up. “You and Patti are staying home. I don’t want either of you going anywhere. Sit here and think about what you’ve done. And don’t expect to see me around for a while. I can’t even look at you two right now.”

He grabbed his keys, slammed the door, and left.

As soon as Eric was gone, the heavy tension in the house finally eased a little. Patti started crying, her voice shaky. “Mom, I didn’t know it would get this bad. If I’d known, I never would’ve done something so stupid.”

After the art show, Leila had been furious with Patti, but after thinking it over, she realized this mess wasn’t really her daughter’s fault. The real problem was Theresia.

Leila pulled Patti into a hug, stroking her hair. “Patti, this isn’t on you. If Theresia hadn’t come back for payback and exposed everything, we wouldn’t even be dealing with this financial disaster.”

Patti pressed her lips together, feeling wronged. “If I wasn’t married, I could’ve married someone for the family. That would’ve fixed everything.”

Marrying for the family…

Why hadn’t she thought of that before?

Leila’s eyes lit up. “I’ve got an idea.”

Patti sniffed, wiping her eyes. “What idea?”

Leila gave a cold, satisfied smile. “I raised Theresia for eighteen years. She’s my daughter in name. Now she’s divorced, so it’s only right for me to arrange her next marriage.”

Patti stopped crying, suddenly interested. “You have someone in mind?”

Leila nodded. “The heir to BluePeak Ventures. He was born with polio and he’s already thirty. He still hasn’t married. Theresia may not come from a great family, but she’s got some public attention now. She’s barely good enough for him.”

Leila’s voice dripped with sarcasm. “Because of you. The Baker Group’s stock tanked and when Janetta heard, she fainted from the shock.”

Theresia’s brows knitted together, worry taking over. She didn’t bother arguing. “I’m coming now.”

She ended the call, grabbed her bag from the rack, but paused for a second, remembering something. She checked to make sure her taser was in her bag, then reached for a little white bottle, took a pill, and finally left.

The whole drive over, Theresia’s mind was racing with worry for Janetta. She sped all the way there, turning a thirty-minute drive into twenty.

She rang the bell. Patti opened the door, her expression full of barely hidden hatred. Her eyes looked like they could set something on fire. But then, remembering what was about to happen tonight, a cruel satisfaction flickered across her face.

Patti sneered, “Wow, you really care about that old woman, don’t you?”
