He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 69

The last few days had been easy for Theresia. She had sifted through a pile of interview requests and picked one, setting it for three days later. Maisie had settled in, texted to say she was safe, and everything was moving exactly the way they’d hoped.

Theresia lounged on the hotel sofa, scrolling through the latest financial news. The Baker Group’s stock had nosedived after Patti’s scandal, wiping out hundreds of millions in just a few days. For the Baker family, that kind of loss was huge. She could already picture Eric pinning it all on Patti.

Her phone buzzed, pulling her out of her thoughts. It was a message from her private investigator, asking to meet up at a coffee shop nearby.

Theresia stood, grabbed a white casual outfit from her suitcase, and got ready with just a bit of makeup. The coffee shop was only a ten-minute walk away. When she walked in, she immediately spotted a man in the back row, wearing a black baseball cap.

She walked over and asked quietly, “Carl?”

He nodded. “Hi, Theresia. I’m Carl.”

Three months ago, she’d hired Carl to track down witnesses from her car accident and anyone involved in her surgery. Up until now, they’d only talked on the phone. This was their first time meeting face-to-face.

Once she was sure it was him, she sat down. “Did you find something?”

Carl slid a folder across the table and lowered his voice. “Everyone who was part of your surgery is gone. Not just from the hospital, but from Harrisburg. The head surgeon died in a car crash two years ago. The other doctor was murdered. The nurse who helped out suffered brain damage from drowning last year. She doesn’t even recognize her own family anymore.”

Every single person who knew the truth had suffered some accident. Theresia didn’t buy the idea that it was all just bad luck. This had to be on purpose.

Leila shrank back, her voice small and shaky. “I didn’t know it would get this bad. I just wanted what was best for Patti.”

Eric scoffed, seeing right through her. “Best for Patti? Do you even believe that? You knew she had no talent for painting. You pushed her anyway. You did this for your own pride.”

Leila couldn’t look at him. He was right, and she knew it. All she’d wanted was to turn Patti into a famous artist to feed her own ego. That was why she hadn’t stopped her daughter. She was willing to risk everything just for Patti’s fame.

Standing in front of Patti, Leila’s tone turned defiant. “Well, it’s already happened. What are you going to do, kill us to make yourself feel better?”
