He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 83

Theresia paused, caught off guard.

Garry’s voice came quietly beside her ear. “I don’t need an ally who’s always getting themselves hurt. That just looks foolish.” His gaze lingered on the white gauze wrapped around her arm. For a second, something tightened in his chest. His brows drew together, and his voice dropped even lower. “So, make sure you stay safe.”

He let go of her.

His calm, distant eyes met hers just briefly before he looked away, but that was enough for Theresia to see things more clearly. Maybe the tension, the worry she thought she’d felt when he hugged her, was all in her head. A man as cold and collected as Garry couldn’t possibly have such complicated feelings for her.

Her expression shifted, just a little. “It was an accident. I’ll be more careful next time.”

She didn’t look at him, but she could still feel his eyes on her. It made her uneasy, so she grabbed at the first excuse she could think of to leave.

“I’m going to check on Webb. Garry, don’t forget what you promised me.”

“Alright.”

Theresia walked away first. Garry watched her go, something soft and lingering in his eyes. He reached out, almost as if he could touch her, but then let his hand fall, the space between them suddenly feeling way too big.

He knew he should keep his distance. He just couldn’t seem to help himself.

His dark eyes grew serious, and a slight frown appeared as he clenched his hand into a fist.

Theresia trusted Garry to handle everything with Webb. He told her to go rest and promised he’d take care of things at the hospital, letting her know when it was all settled.

So she did as he said, dragging herself back to her hotel room. The sky was already light by the time she got there, and she was exhausted. Even so, she woke up again after only a short nap.

Too much on her mind. She just couldn’t settle down.

She checked her phone. No missed calls, no new messages. Just as she was about to set it aside, the phone buzzed in her hand.

A friend request.

They might have been allies by circumstance, but Garry had gone above and beyond for her. She owed him a real thank you.

“Garry, when we get back to Harrisburg, let me take you out for dinner,” she offered, trying to sound sincere.

He didn’t answer right away, and she started to wonder if the invitation came off as too formal. Before she could say anything else, he replied, “Sure. I’ll remember that.”

She was quiet for a moment. He sounded so official, like they’d just signed some kind of contract.

The call ended soon after, no extra words, no lingering goodbyes.

Theresia sat there, holding her phone, lost in thought. After a while, she let out a quiet laugh and walked out to the balcony.

Silverpine’s a coastal city, and there was a subtle dampness in the air. The breeze felt soft and cool on her skin. She closed her eyes and let herself enjoy that small comfort.

A few moments later, Garry’s face drifted into her thoughts again. She opened her eyes quickly, almost startled by how real it felt.
