Julian swaggered over and leaned against the edge of her heavy mahogany desk, looking down at her.
Zara was completely unbothered, her expression a placid lake. It was hard to imagine what it would take to make a woman like her lose control.
Her frown deepened. He always carried that insufferable, playboy swagger. Every single movement was designed to seduce, baiting women into his web of superficial romance. But the moment they fell for him, Julian never took responsibility.
He was nothing but a worthless skirt-chaser.
She averted her gaze, focusing back on the document in front of her, resolute in ignoring him.
Julian tapped his long fingers rhythmically against her desk. Seeing her maintain that icy demeanor, he finally spoke. "I accidentally stumbled upon a little secret today. Though, I suppose it requires further observation."
Zara had no idea what he was talking about and didn't bother engaging.
Julian leaned in closer. "I forgot to ask before the wedding—do you have someone you're in love with?"
Zara's eyelashes fluttered for a fraction of a second. Just once. But Julian caught it.
He raised an eyebrow, a meaningful gleam in his eye.
She kept her voice completely steady. "Section three of our prenup explicitly states we are not to interfere in each other's private lives."
The implication was clear: his sudden interest in her romantic life was crossing a boundary.
Julian straightened up and walked toward the door. Just as his hand hit the knob, he paused and glanced back over his shoulder. "You know, wife, you're actually quite interesting."
If he had said that to any other woman, she might have thought Julian was finally paying attention to her.
And paying attention was usually the first step to falling in love.
But this was Zara.
She didn't even lift her head as she replied, "Thank you."
Julian let out a dry laugh and walked out. The moment the door clicked shut behind him, the amusement vanished from his face.
He pulled out his phone and made a call, ordering his people to run a full background check on Zara. He wanted every single detail of her life laid bare.
The person on the other end scrambled to agree.
Julian's lips curled into a cold sneer. He hung up and stepped into the elevator.
