He finally cooled down and slowly sat back down next to her.

Even though she was covered in thorns, constantly lashing out and hurting him, Nelson still wanted to be near her.

He figured getting pricked was better than just watching her from a distance.

A heavy silence settled between them until the doctor finally emerged with the lab results. "Not pregnant. HCG levels are at a normal baseline."

Juniper's expression didn't change at all. Of course she knew she wasn't pregnant.

But Nelson shot up, shoving the paper back at the doctor, and demanded sternly, "Run it again. The machine could be wrong."

The doctor looked utterly exasperated. "Mr. Saint, this is the most accurate test for pregnancy."

Nelson pressed his lips together. This just didn't feel right.

But if this wasn't right, what was?

His fists clenched tightly at his sides. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Juniper stand up. "Are you satisfied now? Can I go home?"

Nelson's tone turned icy. "What do you mean, am I satisfied?"

Why could she ignite his rage so effortlessly with just a few words?

Juniper stared him down. "If I really was pregnant, then what? You'd drag me to an abortion clinic? Nelson, do you honestly think I'd do something that stupid?"

"Juniper, is that the kind of person you think I am?"

"Yes. Actually, you'd probably be worse. You'd probably invite Lydia to come watch just to make her happy."

Nelson's chest heaved violently. He seriously wanted to strangle her.

"Are you listening to the garbage coming out of your mouth?"

Juniper didn't care enough to fight. She turned to walk away, only to see Lydia and Mirabelle standing a short distance down the hall.

Lydia was pale as a ghost. She stared at Juniper, then at Nelson, putting the pieces together—they were here for a pregnancy test...

Even though she had known they were sleeping together, she never anticipated they'd be taking pregnancy tests.

Lydia felt like she couldn't breathe, her hands shaking uncontrollably at her sides.

Mirabelle forced a polite smile. "Nelson, are you and June..."

Nelson was already furious. Glaring directly at Juniper, he snapped bluntly, "Here to see if she's pregnant."

Mirabelle hadn't expected him to be so blunt. Her polite smile nearly cracked. "Shouldn't June's boyfriend be the one taking her to get checked? I recall her having a boyfriend."
