Juniper was supported all the way forward until they walked out of the hospital. Only when the hateful mother and daughter were no longer in her peripheral vision did she slowly straighten her posture.

Nelson hadn't realized she was faking it. He pulled her by the waist. "Don't hold it in if you're feeling sick."

Juniper really wanted to ask what on earth this man was thinking. He and Lydia already had a child together, yet he still dared to act so intimately in front of them.

Then again, Nelson had always done whatever he pleased.

Her lips twitched. She didn't have the energy to argue with him right now. Her emotions had backfired too intensely, and all she wanted was to go home and cuddle Moonlight.

Nelson drove her home. Logically, Juniper should have kicked him out, but she was covered in sweat. The moment she arrived, she went straight to shower. After changing into pajamas, she came downstairs to pour herself a glass of water, only to find Nelson still crouching in the living room, teasing Moonlight. However, no matter how much he tried, the little dog simply despised the man.

Her throat felt a bit scratchy. "Why are you still here?"

Nelson was holding a piece of dog jerky. The corners of his lips curled up involuntarily, making it seem like he was in a good mood. "I was worried you'd pass out at home with no one to notice. I'll leave in a bit."

Juniper's steps faltered. In the past, she would toss and turn over Nelson's sporadic displays of care, mistakenly believing he truly liked her. But to him, this kind of concern was nothing more than a passing whim.

Caring too much had only led her into his trap.

She poured a glass of warm water and grabbed a piece of bread from the fridge, planning to make do with a few bites.

Seeing this, Nelson frowned. "Is this how you eat every day?"

She was genuinely hungry now. She took two bites and headed upstairs without another word.

Nelson teased Moonlight for a while longer before going upstairs. He found her asleep on the bed.

She was frowning, caught in some unknown dream.
