The main hall was getting crowded now, heavily dotted with A-list celebrities brought in as dates. When a few of them spotted Julian from afar, a ripple of excitement passed through them. Everyone knew Julian was incredibly generous with his money and possessed striking good looks. However, seeing a woman seated directly beside him forced them to temporarily suppress their impulses.
Sebastian seemed entirely oblivious to the subtle tension brewing nearby. He turned his laptop toward Zara. "Zara, were you the one who negotiated this previously?"
Zara quickly leaned in, scanning the document with rapid precision. She swiftly corrected two figures on the screen. "These are the numbers I finalized with them. Mr. Sterling, someone has tampered with the data in your file."
Sebastian had only asked her because he had sensed something was off.
It appeared they had a mole in their ranks. If he had signed that contract, the consequences would have been catastrophic.
"Understood. I will have this investigated immediately."
The two of them were leaning close, yet there was a distinct lack of intimacy. Anyone with eyes could see they were strictly discussing business.
But watching them still made Julian's blood boil.
He lowered his lashes and stood up. "I'm going for a walk."
Zara didn't even bother turning around to acknowledge him.
Feeling deeply irritated, Julian rounded a nearby corner—only to have a woman practically fall straight into his arms. "Mr. Sterling, it's been far too long."
The woman wore flawless, heavy makeup. Given the exclusivity of the event, she was obviously someone else's date.
Julian made it a strict rule never to mess with another man's companion, so he gently pushed her away.
The woman leaned in again, grabbing his tie and pulling him toward her.
Julian chuckled softly. It was exactly as the rumors said—he could stroll through a field of flowers without a single petal sticking to him.
Due to her dramatic backbend, the woman lost her footing and nearly tumbled over.
Julian reached out, caught her by the waist, and pulled her flush against his chest. "Careful."
The woman playfully swatted his chest. "For a second, I thought you were just going to let me fall."
Right at that moment, Julian saw Zara approaching.
Zara held an empty cup—Sebastian's cup. It seemed he had finished his coffee and she was fetching a refill.
