Finn Lawrence walked up behind him and lightly bumped his shoulder. "Why are you just standing here in the middle of nowhere?"
The hall was packed with comfortable seating, yet Julian was lounging right by a busy walkway.
Julian gave a slight shrug and found a random chair to sink into. He glanced at the woman standing beside Finn, instinctively wanting to make a comment, but ultimately kept his mouth shut.
Finn had only been brought back to the Lawrence family a few years ago. When he returned, a girl had come with him. According to the rumors, during the years Finn was lost, he had lived with her family. Her family was essentially his savior; without them, he would have starved to death on the streets.
Out of gratitude for saving his life, Old Mr. Lawrence had ordered Finn to marry the girl immediately.
It had become a legendary fairytale in their social circles, a testament that the Lawrence family didn't care about social standing or wealth.
Years had passed since then, but whenever Finn attended an event, he never brought his wife. Instead, he was always accompanied by an assistant. In fact, none of them had ever even seen his wife's face.
Julian had asked about it in the past. After all, Finn was the first among their friend group to get married, and rumors claimed he actually had a great relationship with his wife. So why did he always bring a female assistant instead of her?
Finn's answer was always exactly the same: "She doesn't like these kinds of events."
After hearing that excuse enough times, everyone figured out the real truth.
Sharing hardship was one thing, but Finn was now the golden heir of the Lawrence empire. Even before his return, he had been a top-tier student. He had probably grown sick of the girl a long time ago but couldn't find a way to end it. Once Old Mr. Lawrence locked the marriage in place, Finn's hands were tied. The elite circles were obsessed with the romanticized story, heavily praising the Lawrence family's noble character.
If Finn asked for a divorce now, it would be a massive slap in his own family's face.
Julian eventually got bored of asking, but it was blatantly obvious that this current female assistant was interested in Finn—completely unapologetic about it, too.
Finn neither encouraged nor rejected the behavior, simply letting the woman drape herself over him in a cloud of ambiguity.
Julian couldn't be bothered to watch this cliché play out. He looked down and sent a text to Nelson.
