Meanwhile, Juniper and Alistair had arrived at Margot's private suite.
The elderly matriarch was still quite robust, and rumor had it that Alistair had been secretly managing her health regimen for years.
Juniper waited discreetly behind the decorative privacy screen, listening as Alistair chatted with the matriarch inside.
Judging by her tone, Margot sounded like a rather sharp, formidable woman.
After finishing the examination, Alistair spoke with professional detachment. "Your health is flawless. You will easily live to see a hundred."
Margot chuckled from behind the screen and then let out a soft sigh. "Thank you for the trouble. Go on, mingle with the young people."
She personally detested crowds, but an eightieth birthday demanded a certain level of grandeur.
As Alistair stepped out from behind the screen, he gave the Harrington butler a polite nod.
Only then did the butler move past them toward the inner room, but as he did, he cast a lingering glance at Juniper, his brow furrowing slightly.
The moment he first saw her, he felt an uncanny familiarity in her features, but he ultimately brushed the thought aside.
Juniper followed Alistair out of the private quarters. Outside this secluded VIP section, guests milled about everywhere. It was a dazzling display of high society—women in glittering gowns, men in sharp suits. The air was thick with the scent of expensive salon perfumes, mingling heavily with the sweet aroma of pastries and aged wine.
Juniper was just turning to say something to Alistair when they rounded a corner and bumped squarely into Yvonne and Lydia.
Lydia was holding Josie's hand.
Josie let out a dramatic scoff, turning her head away, her disgust for Juniper plainly plastered across her small face.
Yvonne's expression instantly frosted over. It was obvious she was fighting hard to maintain her composure. Her gaze locked onto Alistair's face as she offered a tight, utterly fake smile. "Dr. Vaughn. We meet again."
Even Juniper could tell Yvonne's reaction was intensely abnormal.
Yvonne had probably lost countless nights of sleep lately, desperately trying to unearth Alistair's true identity.
