Moonlight was placed on the bed and immediately fell asleep right by Juniper's feet.
Half of Juniper's face was buried in the covers, and she was sleeping soundly.
Nelson quietly pulled back the blanket, lay down next to her, and pulled her closer into his arms.
Both of their phones were on the pillows, intentionally set to silent mode.
When Juniper woke up, she felt much better. It was just her and Moonlight on the bed. Moonlight was lazily sprawled by her feet, sleeping deeply. She had probably been quite scared outside, too.
Juniper picked her up, patted her gently in her arms, and then went downstairs.
As soon as Moonlight hit the ground floor, she sprinted to her bowl and started eating enthusiastically. Juniper affectionately opened a can of wet food for her.
Last time, she had purposely provoked Lucas to plant a seed of doubt in his mind. She hadn't expected him to take such extreme measures and drag Lydia down with him, but it was clear the two were still hiding something.
Now that Lucas had thrown caution to the wind and fled the country with the money, it meant he knew even worse things would inevitably happen. He might even lose his life later on. Rather than wait to die, he decided to gamble.
And he won.
Juniper had underestimated him. She hadn't expected a coward to be so reckless when making a bet.
Thank God Moonlight was safe, or she would never forgive herself for the rest of her life.
But with Lucas's interference, Lydia's life was going to be very difficult for a while.
Lydia's life was indeed miserable. Being inexplicably dragged away last night and then inexplicably brought back, she could sense Nelson was even more repulsed by her. In the past, she could still do slightly intimate things, like linking his arm or adjusting his clothes, but now Nelson wouldn't even see her!
Lydia was so furious her scalp tingled. She called Lucas dozens of times that night, but his phone was turned off.
It wasn't until the evening that the call finally connected. Lucas's tone was incredibly grim. "Cousin, you can't blame me. If you want to blame anyone, blame yourself for treating me like a pawn from the very beginning. I refuse to believe you didn't know how much Nelson cares about Juniper. You purposely lured me back—did you really think Nelson wouldn't retaliate? Cousin, I trusted you too much before."
Lydia took a deep breath. "You idiot, we're in the same boat. Why would I actually try to hurt you?"
