Hearing this, Jacqueline felt a deep sense of gratitude.
"Elara, I really don't know what to say. Your family is so incredibly good to Scarlett and Dawn."
Elara smiled and took her hand. "There you go, talking like we're strangers again."
"Dawn came to the Croft family with Scarlett. She’s one of us now. Blood doesn't mean everything; it's the connection that matters."
...
While the two women chatted, Juno had already scooped Dawn out of her crib.
Dawn was thrilled to see her, her face lighting up as she babbled, "Auntie! Auntie!"
"Aww, look at my sweet little Dawn! Let's go get some sunshine, okay?"
Hearing that soft little voice melted Juno's heart entirely. She held the toddler with absolute care, gently adjusting the baby's light jacket.
"Let's go, baby! Auntie's taking you outside!"
With a spring in her step, Juno carried Dawn downstairs and out into the courtyard.
The autumn sun was bright and gentle, casting a golden glow over the lush garden. A soft breeze rustled the leaves, making the afternoon feel absolutely perfect.
As soon as she stepped outside, Juno spotted Zachary standing in the pavilion.
His posture was rigid and perfectly straight. One hand was in his pocket, the other holding his phone. The sharp lines of his profile looked hard and uncompromising, and that unapproachable aura clung to him, making him look completely out of place in the warm, peaceful garden.
He really was a man who wanted nothing to do with the living world.
Juno's curiosity flared up again. She naturally thrived on chaos and hated awkward silence, so she boldly walked right up to him.
Resting her head on Juno's shoulder, Dawn stared at Zachary with wide, curious eyes, occasionally letting out a happy little squeak.
"Hi, Zachary."
Juno broke the silence with a bright, cheerful tone. "Just out here enjoying the breeze by yourself?"
Zachary paused, his eyes slowly drifting over to her.
