He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 1101

Zachary looked at Scarlett, his expression grave. "I remember when we were kids, our uncle Barton Bishop and Sean Bishop looked so much alike..."

Because of everything they had been put through, Zachary could only bring himself to refer to the man by his full name. He was completely incapable of calling him 'Dad.'

He paused before finishing his thought, but Scarlett instantly caught his underlying meaning. "You're saying the man we're dealing with now might not actually be him? That the real him might have died five years ago?"

Zachary shook his head. "I'm not entirely sure. After all, I wasn't there. The man who died in that fire was burned beyond recognition. We could only go by the police report."

Scarlett lowered her head, sitting in heavy silence. In her heart, she couldn't stomach accepting the man in front of them as her father. Part of her hoped her real father was someone else—anyone other than this despicable, morally bankrupt man.

Then again, considering how her father had behaved back in the day, even if this was a different man, his character wouldn't be much better. Either way, she could never forgive him, whether he was dead or alive.

"Zachary, whether it's him or not, it doesn't matter anymore," she said softly. "Thankfully, we made it out alive instead of letting him drag us down into the abyss. That's a blessing in itself. I won't go soft on this man. Even if he is our biological father, I will make him pay the price. I absolutely will not allow him to hurt us again."

As she spoke, Scarlett's eyes unconsciously drifted down to Zachary's pant legs. The thought of her brilliant, exceptional brother being forced to endure such agonizing suffering brought fresh tears to her eyes.

Zachary, however, was long used to this. He gently patted her shoulder, his gaze softening with genuine tenderness. "Alright. We'll do it your way. Let's not think about it anymore. Dry your tears, little kitten, and eat your breakfast before it gets cold."
