He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 225

Wearing a crisp white button-down and black cropped trousers, Scarlett walked straight into the site.

Inside, Jacqueline had ordered several crates of iced sodas, handing them out to everyone who had just joined the battle.

When Scarlett walked in, the staff were raising their cans in a toast, laughing about how satisfying the fight had been.

"Mom! Are you okay? Why would they just show up here to cause trouble?"

Scarlett rushed through the crowd and grabbed Jacqueline's hands, her voice laced with concern.

Seeing her daughter, Jacqueline quickly pulled her into a makeshift office nearby.

Even though Melanie's words had infuriated her, they had won the battle decisively. It felt incredible.

Jacqueline was in high spirits, a huge smile on her face.

"They came all the way here looking for a beating, so I politely accommodated them. Don't worry, your mom is perfectly fine. With my combat skills, even if they brought ten more people, they wouldn't stand a chance!"

Seeing her mother completely unharmed, Scarlett let out a massive sigh of relief.

"Thank God. I saw the video they posted online and it scared me half to death. I thought they brought a gang to attack you."

Jacqueline scoffed.

"It was Yardley. He must be at the end of his rope. Lowered himself to play supervisor here, claiming he was helping me out. If he was willing to stoop this low now, where was this energy before? If he hadn't been so heartless in the past, I might have told you to give him another chance, for Dawn's sake."

Scarlett shook her head without hesitation.

"Mom, no. I've made up my mind. I have to leave."

"Being sick and going through that surgery made me realize a lot of things. I shouldn't interfere so much in your life. After all, you're the one who has to live with your choices."

"Just like when I fought tooth and nail to stop you from studying architecture, and you changed your major behind my back anyway. I fought tooth and nail to stop you from marrying Yardley, and you eloped anyway... My objections didn't stop you; they only drove us apart. I'd rather just support you. The best I can do now is clear the obstacles in your way and help you wherever I can."

Scarlett never thought she would hear those words from her fiercely independent mother.

She knew Jacqueline's personality perfectly. She was a workaholic—strong, intense, and aggressively self-reliant.

Asking her to put her own life on hold to help raise a baby was something that would have been absolutely impossible in the past.

Scarlett looked deeply at her mother.

She suddenly realized that after her major surgery, Jacqueline seemed to have aged significantly. Her once thick, jet-black hair now had faint streaks of silver hidden within.
