Yardley's hands clenched into fists, the warmth draining from his eyes until only a glacial chill remained.
"Are you telling the truth?"
Melanie slammed a digital copy of the purchase contract right onto Yardley's desk.
"See for yourself. Who else's signature is that but Julian's?"
Disbelieving, Yardley grabbed the phone. His eyes locked onto the signature in the bottom right corner. His pupils contracted sharply, and a ringing noise exploded in his head.
Julian wasn't the type to casually gift expensive things to women.
Women had thrown themselves at him his entire life, but Yardley had never seen him show interest in a single one.
Sure, Julian was single now, but Scarlett was still married! How dared he publicly flaunt such a massive gift?
This wasn't just a gift. It was a blatant, unapologetic declaration of war.
Fueled by rage, Yardley slammed his fist into the desk.
"How... how dare they!"
Seeing the fury finally ignite in Yardley's eyes, Sylvia let out a scoff.
"Yardley, you still don't see Scarlett for who she really is."
"She married you to climb the social ladder. She's completely ruthless. Why else do you think you ended up in her room during that relief mission upstate? And how did she just 'happen' to leave the door unlocked?"
"Now she's found a bigger, stronger tree to cling to in Julian, so she can't wait to toss you aside. Can you really not see it?"
Yardley glared viciously at Sylvia.
"Don't you ever talk about Scarlett like that. She... is not that kind of woman."
"She isn't?" Melanie burst out laughing. She yanked the divorce agreement out of Yardley's drawer and slapped it loudly on the desk. "Look at this!"
"She's demanding everything under the sun in this agreement. She's aiming straight for your assets. If she was so fiercely independent and in love with you, she'd walk away with nothing! That's the only way she could prove she doesn't care about money!"
