He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 241

Sylvia Stetson and Melanie Flynn were relentlessly fanning the flames in the family group chat.

Corinne and Gwen Quinn's tempers were predictably ignited. Yet, at the center of the storm, Yardley Flynn remained as still as a stagnant pool. From start to finish, he didn't type a single word.

Realizing he was still hopelessly stubborn, the chat finally quieted down.

Furious, Melanie dragged Sylvia to a nearby cafe. She ordered a large iced latte and took a massive gulp, trying to use the icy sweetness to extinguish the fire burning in her chest.

Sylvia's eyes darted around as a plan formed in her mind.

"Melanie, at this point, if Yardley is still so desperate to protect them, I think we have to take a gamble. We need to find a way to get a DNA sample from that baby for a paternity test."

"As long as we have hard evidence proving that kid is a bastard, we can completely ruin Scarlett Langley and Julian Croft!"

Melanie slapped her forehead, a look of sudden realization washing over her face.

"You're right! Why didn't I think of that?"

Sylvia nodded emphatically, a venomous glint in her eyes. "Exactly! She's getting so close to Julian now, and he's spoiling her, even gifting her a car. As long as we prove the baby isn't Yardley's, we can dump all the dirty water on Julian. The two of them will drown in the public backlash! They'll be treated like rats crossing the street, just like Scarlett's mother back in the day!"

A look of ecstasy spread across Melanie's face. She shot up from her chair. "You're right, that's exactly what we need to do! That baby is our golden ticket!"

Resting her chin in her hands, Sylvia frowned slightly. "But Scarlett has that kid hidden away. Where are we even going to find her?"

A meaningful smirk crept onto Melanie's lips. "I've already figured out where they're staying."

"They're living at a place called the Magnolia Villa, owned by Jacqueline Langley. She built it on her own private plot, so it's not part of a gated community. The security there is practically nonexistent."

"I'll send someone to stake out the place right now, figure out their routine, and find an opening to snatch the baby. We just need to pull a few hairs for the test, and everything will come to light, won't it?"

Sylvia was startled, her voice pitching up. "Kidnap the baby? That's illegal, we can't—"

Melanie sneered, madness swirling in her eyes. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained. As long as we bring the kid back to the Flynn family and get the sample, the truth will be out! Sylvia, do you have the guts to make this bet?"

Scarlett drove back to the Magnolia Villa, her car laden with gifts and her heart heavy with guilt toward her daughter.

She had been working overtime recently and simply didn't have time to make it back for dinner. Yet, every evening, Jacqueline would leave her a bowl of swiftlet's nectar or simmer a pot of ginseng soup for her. Tonight was no exception.

It felt so good to be by her mother's side.

Free, relaxed, safe, and happy.

Lately, the corners of Scarlett's mouth would involuntarily curl up into a smile the moment she arrived home.

Sitting at the dining table, she finished the swiftlet's nectar her mother had specially saved for her in one go. She took a shower, changed into soft loungewear, and meticulously sterilized all the gifts she had brought back before finally daring to step into the nursery.

Pushing the door open, she saw Jacqueline and Zara helping Dawn practice tummy time on the bed.

At three months old, Dawn's arms and legs were getting more agile, and her neck was surprisingly strong—she could actually lift her head. With her radiant, porcelain skin, it was obvious she was being beautifully taken care of.
