He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 242

A maternal warmth naturally washed over Scarlett's face. She immediately stepped forward and scooped Dawn into her arms.

Seeing her carry in a mountain of bags, Jacqueline frowned slightly. "The baby is still so young, why did you buy so much stuff again? Money doesn't grow on trees, don't waste it."

Scarlett offered her a soft smile. "I didn't buy any of this. Julian said Dawn is almost three months old, so he and Bill pooled their money together and insisted on getting her gifts."

"Besides all this, they also bought a massive play castle. It should be delivered any minute now."

Hearing this, a smile touched Jacqueline's lips. "That Julian Croft is just as thoughtful and gentle as he was when he was a kid. A guy with your brother's personality would never think of these things without a reminder."

Scarlett lowered her eyes, teasing Dawn while she smiled. "Yeah, he really is a great guy, and Bill is wonderful too. Anyone Bill considers a close friend has to be solid."

Just as she finished speaking, her phone rang. It was the delivery driver.

Scarlett answered, and a middle-aged man's voice came through. "Hello, Ms. Langley, the play castle Mr. Flynn ordered for you has arrived at your door. Could you please come out and sign for it?"

Mr. Flynn?

Scarlett couldn't help but frown. "Are you sure you haven't made a mistake? It was ordered by Mr. Croft. How did it become Mr. Flynn?"

There was a pause on the other end, accompanied by some muffled conversation. A moment later, the voice returned. "Ms. Langley, I just double-checked. It was definitely sent by Mr. Flynn. In fact, he's standing right here at the door."

What?!

The play castle was clearly ordered by Julian; Scarlett had watched him place the order and pay for it with her own eyes.

How had it suddenly turned into Mr. Flynn? Could it be... Yardley pulling some kind of stunt?

At the thought, her brow furrowed deeper. She handed Dawn back to Jacqueline. "Mom, the castle is here. I'm going to step out and take a look."

Two of the heavy flower heads hit Yardley directly in the face and chest, the broken stems scraping sharply against his skin. It stung intensely.

Yardley couldn't articulate the pain in his chest, but he was already numb to it.

Her reaction was entirely within his expectations, yet this sheer apathy—especially when compared to the warmth she showed Julian—made it hard for him to breathe.

Now, not only did she no longer love him, but she also despised the sunflowers she used to adore.

"Yardley, why must you do something so pointless when we are at the very end?" Scarlett demanded furiously. Her gaze was piercing, and she couldn't be bothered to waste another word on him. She turned, ready to shut the door.

Massaging his temples, Yardley suddenly spoke up softly behind her.

"When I do it, it's pointless, but when Julian does it, it's perfectly fine. Is she my daughter, or...?"
