Her arrogant, brazen laughter echoed sharply through the cavernous hall, making everyone's ears ring.
The socialites who had just scurried to the middle of the room looked at each other in confusion. Jacqueline's sudden outburst sent a chill down their spines, and they instinctively shrank back, completely at a loss.
Jacqueline cast a cold, sidelong glance at Melanie and sneered. "Are you sure about that? Do you believe that with one phone call, I could make sure your brother-in-law's Wall Street dreams go up in smoke?"
Melanie couldn't believe her ears. She let out a scoff. "Listen to you, Jacqueline! Do you even know who my brother-in-law is?"
"You think a woman who runs a nightclub can pull strings on Wall Street? What kind of sick joke is this?"
Corinne and Gwen joined in with exaggerated laughter.
Corinne acted as though she had caught a lifeline, her voice so shrill it almost cracked. "I suggest you do a little digging into my son-in-law's background before you start making empty threats!"
"He is Vincent Wallace, the sole heir to the prestigious Wallace family of Sterling City! He's a true elite of the financial world. You think a nightlife hustler like you can touch him? You're out of your mind!"
Jacqueline watched their performance quietly. Her eyes were as calm as still water, completely undisturbed, as if she were watching a couple of clowns jumping around.
Slowly, she pulled her phone out of her clutch and, right in front of everyone, dialed a number.
It connected quickly.
"There's a guy named Vincent Wallace. His company is called QT-Verse, and they just rang the bell on NASDAQ," Jacqueline said in a lazy drawl. "His mother-in-law and sister-in-law just pissed me off. You know what to do."
Through the receiver, a man's respectful voice was faintly audible. There was no hesitation, just a firm and decisive reply.
"Understood."
