Yardley held his breath, his eyes locked on the massive screen.
Seconds later, the names of Scarlett, himself, and several other highly respected executives appeared.
Then, the vote counts loaded in.
Scarlett was in first place by an absolute landslide.
Yardley had exactly one vote.
And it was the vote he had cast for himself.
The confident smirk vanished from his face.
It was instantly replaced by a surging, explosive fury mixed with total disbelief.
"How is this possible? How could this happen?"
His hands curled into fists, the veins on his forehead bulging as he shot up from his chair.
"Did you miscalculate the votes?!"
"She's a complete amateur! She barely even qualifies as a business owner! How the hell did she get the highest number of votes in the room? Are you people playing games with the future of this association?"
His voice grew louder and more enraged with every word until he was practically snarling.
But the committee members simply looked down at him with cold, calculated stares. A few even had open mockery in their eyes.
Mr. Lucas gripped the microphone and spoke firmly.
"Mr. Flynn, the voting process is completely transparent and fair. There is absolutely no mistake."
"It's true that Ms. Langley is relatively new to the corporate side, but her company, Croft Group, has already finalized a massive strategic partnership with this association. We have absolute faith in the future of her enterprise, and the majority of us believe she is the right person to lead all our members into a better future."
The blood froze in Yardley's veins.
Croft Group?
Scarlett and Julian had quietly founded an entire corporate group? And they had already successfully completely won over the executive committee and secured a massive partnership with them?
