His words were loaded with thinly veiled implications.
Everyone in the room was a seasoned corporate veteran, and quite a few of them already knew that he and Scarlett used to be married.
Instantly, the crowd turned their probing, curious gazes toward her.
She met his stare with perfect, unflinching calm.
"I am telling the truth. What exactly are you trying to imply, Yardley?"
He gave a tight, patronizing smile, his voice slow and deliberate.
"I know the gold medal is real. And I suppose I can credit you with having the capability to start Croft Group. But secretly working on national heritage sites for the past five years? Leading the preservation of The Breeze Pagoda?"
He deliberately trailed off.
After all, she was his former wife and the mother of his child. Even if he thought he knew the truth, he didn't have the heart to completely destroy her in front of everyone.
He had never wanted to publicly humiliate her.
But Veronica immediately caught his drift and jumped in for the kill.
"I heard you spent the last five years working as a basic designer at Flynn Group. How would you possibly have the time to work on multiple national heritage preservation projects?"
"And as for The Breeze Pagoda? That's an absolute joke. I know more about that project than anyone else here because my family's company bought the land right next to it."
"When they were deciding what to do with the pagoda, a massive team of experts was brought in, and almost all of them recommended tearing it down. But one single expert stood against the crowd, proposing a radical new preservation method that saved the structure."
"Scarlett, if you're going to lie, at least make it believable. That project is highly documented. Claiming credit for something we can verify with a single phone call is just pathetic!"
Veronica spoke loudly and with absolute conviction.
A few of the executives in the crowd started whispering, doubt creeping into their minds about the validity of the election results.
