Vincent stared back, utterly incredulous.
"Are you kidding me? You still don't know the executive director's name?"
Yardley shook his head numbly. "No."
Vincent pulled out his phone, opened a document, and shoved it in his face.
"Her name is Scarlett Langley."
"I got this file two weeks ago. How do you not have it?"
It felt as if a bomb had detonated inside Yardley's skull.
He stared at Vincent, his eyes wide with sheer terror, his voice cracking as it rose an octave.
"What... what did you just say? What is her name?"
Vincent gave him a bizarre look.
"Her name is Scarlett Langley. Look, this really isn't the time to obsess over details..."
"The event is about to start. Go out there and apologize! If you disrespect AM Capital's director, you can kiss the rest of that funding goodbye!"
Vincent had almost zero interaction with Scarlett in the past, completely unaware that she was Yardley's ex-wife.
To him, Bill was an absolute god. If Bill hadn't mentored him back in Country A, Vincent never would have made his fortune or taken his own company public.
As a result, he worshipped the ground Bill walked on and by extension, respected the authority of anyone AM Capital appointed.
Yardley's entire body began to tremble. He swayed on his feet, barely able to keep his balance.
With shaking hands, he pulled out his phone.
"I... I'll call her right now."
He stumbled away, desperately dialing her number, only to remember with a sickening jolt that she had already blocked him.
Yardley glanced down at his watch, sheer panic setting in, and bolted toward the hotel entrance.
