Corinne looked around triumphantly at her daughters and cleared her throat with an air of authority.
"It's me, Corinne."
Scarlett let out a soft, dismissive breath.
"Who? Never heard of you."
Corinne stiffened, planting a hand on her hip in irritation.
"Cut the act, Scarlett! I'm your former mother-in-law. You know exactly who I am!"
"Do you want something?" Scarlett's tone remained utterly indifferent.
Corinne scoffed, her arrogance flaring.
"I hear you're the executive director AM Capital sent over?"
"I have to admit, you've got some serious tricks up your sleeve, managing to latch onto a massive international firm like that!"
"What's your point?"
"Oh, please, I know exactly what your game plan is. You're using this position to force Yardley to spend time with you so you can try to get back together with him."
"Let me give you some advice: if you want him back, act like it. Drop this high-and-mighty attitude! Right now, women from the best families in the city are lining up to marry my son!"
"So hurry up and get your ass back to the banquet! Tonight, you are going to help him save face and make this event a success. If you don't, you can kiss any chance of a reunion goodbye!"
Corinne rattled off the lecture without taking a breath.
It had been so long since she had the chance to talk down to Scarlett from a position of absolute superiority, and she was savoring every second of it.
She was practically glowing with smug satisfaction, exchanging knowing glances with her daughters.
But suddenly, a voice colder than ice came through the speaker.
"Mom! Shut up!"
"What the hell is wrong with you?! Why would you call her just to provoke her right now? Are you insane?!"
"I am giving you exactly three seconds to apologize to her! Right now!"
Yardley was currently standing directly in front of Scarlett outside the hotel.
