He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 726

Knowing she couldn't keep blowing her off, Scarlett readily agreed.

She threw on a simple, elegant light blue shirt dress, touched up her makeup, and headed out.

Elara had sent her the location of a quiet, upscale cafe.

When Scarlett pushed the door open, she saw a long wooden table covered in an array of fresh flowers, vases, and pruning tools.

Elara, dressed in a stunning white sheath dress, was deep in conversation with Heidi, a well-known floral designer in Bay City.

They were so engrossed in their chat that they didn't notice Scarlett walking in.

Scarlett stepped forward, just about to say hello, when a sharp, mocking comment drifted through the air.

"I heard your son has been getting awfully close to the Flynn family's ex-wife?"

It was Heidi who asked. Elara looked taken aback and answered defensively, "Yes. Julian and Scarlett are good friends. Why?"

Heidi pursed her lips, a sly smile creeping onto her face. "No reason. I've just been hearing some things about her. I wouldn't want your son getting duped, so I thought I should warn you."

Elara's expression stiffened. "What things? Tell me."

"And I also heard the real reason the Flynns don't want anything to do with that baby is because Scarlett's family has a terrifying genetic history of cancer. Apparently, no one in her family lives past forty. Both of her uncles died of cancer—one at thirty-seven, the other at thirty-eight. Oh, and get this: her mother, Jacqueline, got breast cancer last year and secretly flew to Australia for surgery."

This was the very first time in Scarlett's life she had ever heard anything about her mother's side of the family.

Her memories of her grandmother's family, the Langleys, had always been incredibly blurry, and she had barely any contact with them growing up. She had always wondered why her family was so small. Hearing that both her uncles had died so young felt like a physical blow.

Elara was equally shocked. "Are you serious? Where are you getting all this?"

"Corinne told me all of it," Heidi insisted. "I couldn't believe it either, which is exactly why I'm telling you! I know you like Scarlett, but if you're thinking of letting Julian marry her... Elara, he is your only son. You cannot take that risk."
