He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 729

A second later, Yardley froze, spotting Scarlett and Elara casually sitting at the table, taking a flower arranging class.

Behind the AC unit, Corinne was in absolute agony. Her body was practically contorted in the tiny space, and she felt like she was suffocating. To make matters worse, she had been standing perfectly still in high heels for over an hour. Her feet were screaming in pain, and she was dripping in cold sweat.

She had planned to sneak out the second Scarlett and Elara left.

But instead of storming out in tears, the two women had decided to take their sweet time playing with flowers.

Corinne was miserable, grinding her teeth and mentally screaming every curse word she knew.

She had been barely holding on, but the second she heard her son's voice, it was like she had been thrown a life preserver. Desperate to escape, she practically launched herself out of the narrow gap.

*Crash.*

She tumbled out spectacularly, landing flat on her back with her limbs flailing in the air.

The sudden noise made everyone in the room whip around.

Corinne's face was a sickly shade of green. She lay on the floor, groaning dramatically, acting as if she had just survived a horrific accident.

Elara feigned shock. "Oh my! Heidi, I had no idea you were keeping an eavesdropper tucked away in your cafe. Why didn't you say something?"

Heidi froze, stammering in pure panic. "I... uh..."

Seeing his mother sprawled on the floor, Yardley rushed over, hauled her to her feet, and practically carried her to a chair.

His face was dark with anger as he looked at the florist. "What is going on here, Heidi? She said she was coming for a class. Why was she hiding back there?"

"Scarlett, deny it all you want, but you did hemorrhage, didn't you?! And if you don't know about your family's medical history, go ask your mother! As far as I know, the Langley bloodline is completely wiped out except for her!"

Corinne was so desperate to defend herself that she didn't care how deeply her words cut.

Scarlett's body started to shake. She dug her fingernails into her skin to keep from lunging across the table. When she finally spoke, her voice was deathly quiet.

"So... you did know I hemorrhaged that day. I always assumed you didn't know. I thought that was why you took one look at Dawn, saw she was a girl, and walked away while I was bleeding out."

Even now, bringing it up felt like a knife to the chest. Her blood ran ice cold, and her eyes burned with a lethal hatred.

"Why don't you just tell the truth? You abandoned my daughter because she wasn't a boy. Why drag my family into this and spread such vile lies about us?"

"And considering I didn't even know what happened to my grandmother's family, how the hell would you know?! Watch your mouth, Corinne! Your lies are going to ruin you!"
