Having not received a single message from him for days, Scarlett had felt an undeniable emptiness in her chest.
But now, seeing him walking steadily beside her, that feeling of weightlessness vanished, replaced by an instinctual joy that bloomed like spring water.
Yet, she quickly tamped down the flutter in her heart, refusing to overthink it.
Sensing her gaze, Julian turned his head slightly. His deep eyes reflected her image as he lowered his voice. "Sneaking glances at me? Did a few days apart make me look even more handsome?"
Scarlett quickly looked away, her ears burning even redder, but she stubbornly shot back, "Who's looking at you? I'm watching where I'm going."
Julian chuckled softly and didn't press the issue. He just naturally leaned a bit closer to her, their arms brushing against each other.
Scarlett felt a jolt of electricity shoot up her right arm. Just as she was debating whether to step away—
A deep, magnetic voice suddenly rang out from behind them.
"Scarlett, you're heading to Country A, too?"
Scarlett and Julian both stopped in their tracks.
Standing behind them was Yardley Flynn. He was dressed in a white silk button-down and black slacks, holding a sleek black carry-on, watching them silently.
His gaze swept over the minimal distance between them, a flicker of dark jealousy flashing in his eyes.
Instead of walking around them like a normal person, he took a long stride forward and forcefully wedged himself right between Scarlett and Julian with an imposing, overbearing presence.
He angled his shoulder to subtly shove Julian aside, then looked down at Scarlett. His tone was suffocatingly presumptuous. "I happen to be going there on a business trip. I can give you a ride."
Scarlett's pupils contracted in disbelief. "You...!"
Yardley's lips curved into a faint, self-satisfied smirk as he looked at Julian with unmistakable condescension. "Julian, if you're absolutely desperate to get to Country A, I wouldn't mind letting you hitch a ride on one of the seats I bought."
Yardley's tone was incredibly cocky, dripping with the implication that he was doing Julian a massive favor and that Julian should be groveling in gratitude.
Having delivered his blow, he turned his gaze back to Scarlett, offering her an incredibly natural, doting smile.
"Scarlett, I even had Vincent Wallace arrange all your meals, accommodations, and itinerary. Everything is fully paid for."
"Just consider it my way of apologizing for my mother's behavior the other day. How about it? Are you happy with this?"
The air seemed to completely freeze.
