As the heavy metal doors slid shut, Julian reacted on pure instinct. Terrified that the doors would crush her hand, he threw his entire body into the gap.
The doors clamped down hard against his shoulders before emitting a sharp chime and bouncing back open.
He stepped inside, his hand still firmly gripping hers.
When Scarlett looked up, her eyes were wide with panic. "Are you okay? Did that hurt?"
She instinctively reached out with her free hand to check his shoulder, but caught herself midway. Realizing the intimacy of the gesture, she quickly pulled her hand back.
In the past, Julian would have politely stepped back to give her space. But this time, he didn't let go. Instead, he smoothly caught her retreating hand, holding both of her hands in his. His gaze was intense and burning. "I'm fine. It doesn't hurt. What about you? Did your hand get caught?"
"N-no..." Scarlett stammered, suddenly overwhelmed by the raw heat in his eyes. Her heart hammered against her ribs, and her words tangled in her throat. "I... um..."
"Let's go eat," Julian said smoothly, pretending not to notice her flustered state. "The revolving restaurant is just downstairs. I booked the best table and hired a well-known pianist to play for us."
He released one of her hands to stand beside her, but kept his other hand firmly intertwined with hers.
Both of their palms were damp with sweat.
Scarlett gave a gentle, experimental tug, trying to free herself. But his grip remained steady and resolute. He had no intention of letting go.
Lost in a daze, Scarlett allowed him to lead her into the grand, palace-like interior of the revolving restaurant.
Whether it was by design or sheer coincidence, the massive dining room was entirely empty. The moment they stepped inside, a host approached, greeting them warmly in English. Across the room, an elegant woman in a flowing gown sat at a white grand piano, her fingers dancing across the keys to produce a beautiful, sweeping melody.
Julian guided her to a prime window seat.
As she sat down, the breathtaking, panoramic view of the city at night immediately captured her attention.
The Peninsula Hotel was the tallest building in the heart of Heston City. From the floor-to-ceiling windows, the entire glowing metropolis was laid out beneath them.
