The sudden glint of steel sent a shockwave of panic through the room.
Scarlett’s heart stopped. "Julian, watch out!" she screamed.
Julian had already spotted the weapon, but Kane was too close. With no room to dodge, Julian twisted his torso and threw up his arm to block the lethal thrust.
The blade sliced deep into his right arm. Blood instantly soaked through his shirt, the sharp agony draining the color from his face.
Gaining the upper hand, Kane smirked, wiping his nose triumphantly. "You think a pampered rich boy like you can take me on? What a joke!"
"Get on your knees and beg, and maybe I’ll let you live."
Kane’s grin turned vulgar. "After all, we did share the same woman. That practically makes us family, right? Hahaha!"
Every word Kane spewed was a calculated strike at Julian’s pride, digging into a painful past he preferred to leave buried.
Julian had never loved Sylvia, but the betrayal was a humiliation that cut deep. From the moment he discovered the child wasn't his, he had forced himself to be the bigger person—to let it go, to walk away quietly, and to heal in private.
He had masked the betrayal with grace and dignity. He kept his silence so no one would see the invisible scars he carried.
But now, Kane was violently tearing off the bandages.
Julian stared at him, his dark eyes turning lethal. All the hatred, all the disgust he felt for this vile, greedy monster boiled over. If he let a piece of trash like Kane Stetson win today, he could never look at himself in the mirror again.
Hatred. A bone-deep, blinding hatred.
A montage of those suffocating six years with Sylvia flashed through his mind. And the architect of that nightmare was standing right in front of him.
Kane waved the knife, drunk on his own arrogance, completely oblivious to the dangerous shift in Julian's demeanor. The warmth had vanished from Julian’s eyes, leaving only a chilling emptiness.
Before Kane could blink, Julian launched himself forward like a predator going in for the kill!
