She felt stifled by a suffocating rage. The entire drive back, the image of Julian holding Scarlett's hand so tenderly played on an endless loop in her mind, making her so jealous she felt physically sick.
She was the beloved heiress of the Thorne family. She had lowered herself to marry Yardley, and how did he repay her? By fobbing her off with a second-hand purse.
Look at Julian. He treated Scarlett like royalty. Not only did he organize that jaw-dropping drone show to declare his love, but he was promising her a spectacular wedding.
Ever since she and Yardley had signed their marriage papers, they had done nothing but fight or give each other the silent treatment. He constantly avoided her, and her heart was breaking from the neglect.
Yes, she had moved into Flynn Manor. She was officially the lady of the house.
But Corinne Quinn, who acted subservient to her face, was constantly turning the household staff against her, plotting behind her back and making her life a living hell.
She had to fight Corinne the second she walked through her front door. Her new husband gave her zero affection or care. And her father was breathing down her neck, demanding she solidify Thorne Industries' grip on Flynn Group to dominate the Bay City market. The immense pressure from all sides was pushing Veronica to the brink of insanity.
Right now, she needed to find Yardley. She wanted to scream at him, to demand why he had given her a used bag and let her humiliate herself so spectacularly in front of Scarlett and Julian.
Veronica stormed straight into Yardley's executive office—only to find it empty.
She grabbed Nathan by the collar, glaring at the assistant. "Where is Mr. Flynn?! Where did he go?!"
Nathan, who already despised the sight of her, shoved her hands away forcefully. "Why would I know the CEO's private itinerary?"
"If you want to know so badly, call him yourself. Aren't you supposed to be his wife?"
Blinded by fury, Veronica raised her hand to slap him. "You son of a bitch, tell me!"
"Don't forget you're just a lowly assistant! How dare you—"
Nathan had worked under Yardley for years. He had swallowed a lot of abuse in his time, but nobody had ever dared to slap him.
"When Ms. Langley was here, she treated every single one of us with kindness. She never acted like a rabid animal the way you do!"
"I work for Flynn Group, I'm not a slave! Mr. Flynn already told me he is my only direct superior. I don't have to take abuse from anyone else! If someone attacks me, I'm defending myself!"
"If you have a problem with what I did today, go cry to Mr. Flynn! Let's see whose side he takes!"
With that, Nathan spun on his heel and marched right out of the office.
Trembling with uncontrollable rage, Veronica grabbed everything on the coffee table and hurled it violently across the room, shattering glass everywhere.
Just then, a booming, authoritative voice echoed from the doorway.
"What the hell kind of tantrum are you throwing in here?"
