Startled by the sudden voice, Veronica froze.
She quickly turned and saw Franklin Flynn standing in the doorway, his hands clasped behind his back, his expression thunderous and his eyes sharp as daggers.
This was the first time she had seen Franklin since marrying Yardley.
She had brought up wanting to meet him several times, but Yardley’s relationship with his father was currently toxic, so he had refused to arrange it.
Seeing Franklin unexpectedly standing there, Veronica was momentarily stunned, but she quickly slipped into character and hurried over to him.
"Dad, what are you doing here?" she asked, her voice instantly turning honey-sweet.
"That assistant was being incredibly rude and physical with me, so I was just putting him in his place. Dad, look at the kind of people Yardley keeps around him—"
Franklin stared at her, his face like stone.
"Ms. Thorne, why are you calling me Dad? When did I become your father?"
Veronica blinked. "Yardley and I already signed our marriage papers. Didn't he tell you?"
"Dad, you really didn't know?"
Franklin had, in fact, heard the rumors. But he and Yardley were currently locked in a bitter cold war over the scandal involving his secretary, Irene, and his three illegitimate sons.
He hadn't been back to Bay City in a while, let alone to the corporate office.
Adding to his rage, Yardley clearly had zero respect left for him as a father, having finalized a massive decision like a second marriage without so much as a phone call.
He was already furious, so naturally, he had absolutely no patience for Veronica.
"Excuse me, but I don't know you, and I certainly don't recognize your status here."
Veronica crossed her arms, radiating pure entitlement.
Franklin was stunned. He never imagined this woman would dare to openly disrespect and challenge him like this!
His face turned a dangerous shade of red as he immediately whipped out his phone and dialed Yardley's number.
Meanwhile, Yardley was still at the hospital trying to manage Sylvia Stetson.
Sylvia’s mental state was highly unstable, and the general hospital refused to keep a psychiatric patient of her severity, fearing they couldn't handle potential liabilities.
Left with no other options, Yardley had contacted a specialized psychiatric facility recommended by the doctors to transfer her there for treatment.
But Corinne was throwing a fit, refusing to allow it. She genuinely believed sending Sylvia to an asylum would destroy the girl for good. She insisted Sylvia was just temporarily distressed and demanded to take her back to Flynn Manor to care for her personally.
