Seeing Veronica act so insufferably arrogant, a flash of disgust crossed Irene's eyes. She hurriedly helped Franklin to the sofa, rubbing his back frantically to help him catch his breath.
Veronica crossed her arms, staring down at the older, still-attractive woman hovering over Franklin. She sneered, fully leaning into her malice.
"Oh, so this must be the legendary Secretary Sommers? The secretary who does a lot more than just take dictation?"
"I thought you'd be some breathtaking beauty based on the rumors. Turns out you're just old and washed up."
She looked back at Franklin. "Old man, you have the nerve to criticize Yardley's taste in women? From where I'm standing, your standards belong in the gutter!"
Franklin had just managed to steady his breathing, but those vicious words hit him like a physical blow to the chest.
He broke into a violent, hacking cough, his face turning an alarming shade of purple. The terrifying sound panicked Irene, who feared he was literally going to have a stroke right then and there.
"Franklin, please, don't listen to this trashy woman. Let's just go. We shouldn't be here."
"She's unhinged. If you stay here, she's going to give you a heart attack..."
After a long, agonizing fit of coughing, Franklin finally caught his breath. His hand trembled violently as he pointed a shaking finger at Veronica.
"You... you... you vile little bitch!"
"I... I will never allow you to set foot in the Flynn family! Get... get the hell out of here!"
Veronica couldn't care less about his threats. She actually clapped her hands and laughed out loud.
"I'm afraid it's too late for that, old man! You don't have the power to kick me out."
"Yardley and I are legally married. And whether you 'allow' it or not, I've already moved into Flynn Manor."
"If you ask me, you and your little mistress are the ones who need to get out. You two should probably pack your bags and leave Bay City before you become a bigger laughingstock. Have some dignity at your age."
Franklin clutched his chest, gasping for air as a severe wave of angina hit him, leaving him completely breathless.
Veronica, suddenly realizing she might have pushed too far, finally snapped her mouth shut.
At that exact moment, Yardley burst through the office doors.
Seeing his father collapsed rigidly on the sofa, Yardley's face instantly drained of color.
"What happened?!"
He swept a freezing glare across the room, ignoring Veronica entirely, and locked eyes with Nathan.
Nathan, who had been standing by the door in absolute shock over Veronica's destructive capability, snapped back to reality. He quickly explained.
"The Chairman collapsed from stress after Ms. Thorne yelled at him. She was... saying some incredibly horrific things."
"There are security cameras in here. You can review the footage yourself."
