He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 204

She laid out her terms without beating around the bush.

"You know perfectly well Janetta won't wait that long. And you're terrified something might happen to her," Helena said, zeroing in on his weak spot. "So, my terms don't inconvenience you at all. It's the most logical way to solve your problem."

She kept her voice perfectly level, but inside, her chest felt like it was being hollowed out. She had loved him for so many years. Even if that love had mutated into resentment, it was still rooted in the same deep, agonizing passion. Speaking these words felt like ripping the scabs off her own wounds and watching them bleed all over again.

How could it not hurt?

But she had endured the pain for so long that she was finally numb to it. She just wanted out.

Helena locked eyes with him, waiting for his answer.

Suddenly, Sebastian took a step forward. Instinctively, she tried to back away, but before she could move, his fingers snapped around her jaw. She frowned but kept her mouth shut.

"Are you absolutely dead set on divorcing me?" he asked, his tone dangerously flat. "Aren't you worried about how I'll treat this child?"

"Once the baby is born, a paternity test will prove he's yours. Even if you despise him, you'll still raise him," Helena replied coolly. "I have nothing to worry about. If Janetta can't tolerate having him around in the future, he can always come find me. My door will be open."

She had mapped out every possible scenario.

Listening to her detached reasoning sent a vicious spike of irritation through Sebastian. He let out a scoff and released her chin.

Helena stumbled back slightly before catching her balance. "Besides, a relationship with three people is exhausting. I'm done playing this game."

By the end, her voice was completely devoid of emotion. She was utterly exhausted, body and soul.

Sebastian said nothing.
