Julian was held up in conversation and couldn't get back to her right away.
Janetta was busy schmoozing with the producers of Destiny's Choice, too occupied to keep an eye on Helena.
As far as Janetta was concerned, nothing scandalous could possibly happen in front of such a massive crowd.
However, Julian's eyes darkened slightly as he watched from across the room.
He hid his displeasure perfectly.
Donovan noticed his reaction and scoffed.
It was hard to tell if he was mocking him or something else entirely.
Julian ignored him.
Just then, the sweeping notes of a waltz filled the ballroom.
Sebastian looked at Helena, extending a hand. "Do I have the honor of this dance, Ms. Wallace?"
It was an entirely open invitation.
Everyone in the room knew about the partnership between The Hayes Corporation and IGM.
A dance between them seemed perfectly professional; there was nothing inappropriate about it.
Naturally, she wouldn't refuse in a setting like this.
She smiled graciously. "I'd love to."
Sebastian took her hand naturally, guiding her into the center of the dance floor with a smooth turn.
The surrounding guests were momentarily taken aback.
When Janetta spotted them, her face drained of color.
But given the high-profile crowd, she didn't dare make a scene.
As they swept across the floor, Helena glided right past Janetta.
There was a mocking, half-smile lingering in her eyes.
It was aimed directly at her.
It was as though Helena was the one holding all the power.
Janetta felt utterly manipulated.
The panic clutching her chest grew increasingly sharp.
It was a terrifying, indescribable feeling.
"Your wife is staring at you," Helena murmured to Sebastian.
He hummed in acknowledgement.
They moved fluidly to the rhythm of the music.
She was quiet, following his lead perfectly.
"Then it seems Mr. Campbell's feelings for you are rather superficial," he remarked coolly.
She didn't take the bait.
She had no reason to explain her dynamic with Julian to him.
Everything she was doing was solely for revenge.
Setting the trap and luring him in.
After another turn, she spotted Julian.
In one fluid motion, Julian pulled her out of Sebastian's arms and into his own.
He glared at the other man with icy disdain. "You're overstepping your bounds, Sebastian."
His dominance was absolute.
She didn't say a word, melting perfectly into Julian's lead to finish the dance.
It was a seamless, silent exchange of partners.
None of the guests found it shocking.
After all, Julian's fierce possessiveness was famous throughout Coralia.
But anyone with eyes could see just how deeply he cherished her.
