He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 144

Barely a second after closing her eyes, she heard someone tapping on the window.

Opening them, she saw a hospital security guard standing outside, bending over and knocking rhythmically on the glass.

She rolled down the window and heard the guard say, "Excuse me, you can't park at the entrance. Please move your car to the lot."

Before she could answer, the guard gasped. "Blood? Is someone hurt?"

With the door open, the overwhelming metallic stench in the confined cabin couldn't be hidden.

The guard looked down and saw Yorath slumped in the driver's seat, deathly pale and completely unconscious.

He immediately shouted at his colleagues, "Get help! It's Mr. Yorath! Call the director!"

The doctors on the night shift rushed out at the sound of his screams.

They pushed a gurney out, frantically sprinting him into the emergency room.

One of the doctors had even lost a shoe in the scramble, leaving it abandoned on the pavement.

Inside the car and outside the car—two entirely different worlds.

Once the chaos died down and everyone was gone...

Ottilie hailed a cab on the street and headed for the airport.

She sent Lachlan an email.

[On my way to the airport.]

He replied: [Everything is arranged.]

By the time she reached the airport, the sun was up.

Stepping out of the cab, she spotted Lachlan waiting, masked and wearing sunglasses, flanked by two assistants.

He pulled her aside and handed over her boarding pass.

"Flight takes off right at eight. Someone will meet you when you land. Leave your phone here so you don't get tracked."

Ottilie nodded, pulling out her phone to remove the SIM card, just as Jevon Crawford called.

She hesitated. There was still over an hour before takeoff.

A lot could happen in that time if she ignored the call.

She stepped away to answer it.

"You've really outdone yourself, Ottilie. Yorath stood up to his family for the kid in your belly. He's got a concussion from the crash, gets punished by the old man at home, and is now lying in a coma. And you? You're nowhere to be found. What exactly is your endgame here?"

"I'm pregnant," she replied flatly. "I can't stand the sight of blood."

And once he fell, he would never climb back out.

Ottilie walked away.

Justina stepped up beside Lachlan. "Mr. Schmidt, the trap is set. But what if he doesn't jump?"

Lachlan adjusted his sunglasses, a ruthless smirk curving his lips.

"If he doesn't jump, we push him."

No one in this world could escape a trap tailored specifically for them.

Yorath had narrowly escaped three years ago.

Lachlan didn't believe his luck would hold out a second time.

Ottilie boarded the plane and waited for takeoff.

Everything was perfectly quiet.

First class was usually sparse anyway.

Today it was completely empty, save for her.
