Ottilie hadn't expected him to show up out of nowhere, and for a split second, she stood frozen.
Marie might be traditional and heavily favor her son, but she wasn't stupid.
She knew perfectly well that their family and Yorath existed in entirely different worlds.
His sudden appearance could only mean he was here to intervene for her daughter.
Whether he was her boss or her sugar daddy, as long as he stopped the wedding, she didn't care.
Mr. Walden was a letdown anyway; they assumed a teacher would be an honorable man.
Yet, he hadn't even paid the two hundred thousand dollar dowry they originally agreed upon, simply trying to run off with her daughter for free.
All those years of raising her, wasted.
Seeing Ottilie standing there like a statue, Marie marched over and pinched her arm.
"Mr. Fordham is talking to you! Hurry up and tell him the wedding is off!"
The pain snapped her back to reality. She looked at him and said, "Yorath, Mr. Walden and I are here to get our marriage license."
He gave a slow nod and calmly turned to the teacher.
"Hello, Mr. Walden. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Ms. Sewell's boss. Our contract hasn't expired yet, and the agency has strict regulations regarding artists getting married. How about we find a place to clarify things, and you two can get married after?"
"The contract doesn't forbid me from getting married," Ottilie interjected.
During their previous termination talks, she had read the document repeatedly. That clause simply wasn't there.
"True, it's not explicitly stated," Yorath replied smoothly. "But it does state that an artist must obtain the agency's approval to marry. Currently, the agency does not approve."
Yves spoke up, "Tilly will leave the entertainment industry when we marry. There must be a breach of contract fee, right? I can pay it."
Yorath smiled politely. "It's quite expensive."
"I can sell my house. My parents' house too. It should be enough."
Yorath shifted his gaze back to Ottilie. "You should discuss this with Mr. Walden. The banks are still open. Once you decide, you can wire the money anytime. Once the penalty is paid, I will naturally persuade your parents to allow the marriage."
With that, he turned to the older couple. "Mr. and Mrs. Sewell, you must be thirsty from all this talking. Let me treat you to some tea at the café across the street."
He carried Ottilie straight to his car.
Opening a thermos Yvonne had packed that morning, he found the ice-cold fresh fruit juice.
Pulling her close against him, he took a sip and passed it mouth-to-mouth into hers.
The freezing, sweet liquid soothed her dry throat and instantly eased her hypoglycemia, making her feel infinitely better.
She instinctively parted her lips to drink more.
Then, he invaded entirely.
It was a kiss so fierce it felt like it would swallow her whole, draining her of oxygen.
Her dizziness intensified.
She struggled faintly, only to be locked down by an overwhelming force threatening to crush her.
He kissed her until he was thoroughly satisfied, pulling back just enough to see her flushed cheeks and unfocused eyes.
