Yorath remained unconscious for hours after his surgery.
Ottilie sat at the desk near the window, quietly flipping through a script.
Huxley Tarrant had sent it to her.
Notifications from her messaging app kept popping up on her screen.
[Ottilie, Nyssa pulled a lot of strings to get this role for you. Don't be ungrateful. If you blow me off, you'll never get another chance like this.]
After hitting send, Huxley rolled around on his bed, practically squealing with dark anticipation.
He had finally lured his prize in.
Once she showed up, he'd get her blackout drunk, throw her in bed, and do whatever he wanted with her.
He laughed out loud.
Ottilie ignored the barrage of messages and focused on the pages in front of her.
It was penned by an unknown writer, but the story was incredible. It was obvious a lot of heart had been poured into it.
The supporting actress role was also a perfect fit for her.
She suspected the movie would likely never see the light of day under its current production, but she still treated the material with respect.
After reviewing a few scenes, she typed a quick reply to Huxley: [I won't blow you off. Don't worry.]
The app pinged a few more times, but she didn't bother checking it again.
After getting a feel for the story, she stood up to stretch. When she turned around, she realized Yorath was awake, his dark eyes fixed on her.
She walked over to the bed. "You're awake. The doctor said you're absolutely forbidden from getting out of bed. If you need anything, I'll get it."
"Thirsty," Yorath rasped.
She poured him a glass of warm water, slipped a straw in, and held it to his lips.
Once he was done, she sat by the bed, picked up an apple, and began to peel it.
She carved off a small slice and offered it to him directly from the blade of the knife.
Yorath leaned forward and took it, the crisp sweetness filling his mouth.
"Tilly, why are you suddenly being so nice to me?"
Having settled the matter, Yorath's tone abruptly changed. "Why is Huxley texting you? What did he say?"
She simply unlocked her phone and handed it to him.
Yorath scanned the messages, his expression darkening. He blocked and deleted Huxley's contact entirely.
Only after it was done did he look up. "I deleted him. You don't mind, do you?"
"Not at all." Ottilie was equally disgusted by Huxley.
Yorath patted the mattress beside him. "Why are you standing so far away? Sit here and talk to me."
She sat on the edge of the bed, and he immediately captured her hand.
"Mrs. Fordham, tonight is our wedding night. We're supposed to share a bed."
"This bed is tiny. How are we supposed to fit?"
Yorath was a massive man; his frame took up almost the entire hospital cot.
"That's easy," he murmured, his thumb brushing over her knuckles. "I'll just have Elian bring in another bed and push them together."
