He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 271

After saying that, he shot Elian Zouch a text.

Ottilie could tell that Yorath was determined to sleep in the same room as her tonight, no matter what.

After finishing his arrangements, Yorath looked over to see Ottilie sitting quietly at the edge of the bed. Her head was bowed, exposing the elegant curve of her neck. She looked incredibly docile.

His heart began to pound against his ribs.

"I know what you're thinking. But we're married now. I won't allow us to sleep in separate rooms, and I certainly won't accept a sexless marriage."

Of course she knew that. If he was going to accept that, why would he have married her in the first place?

"I understand."

Yorath had been fully prepared to debate the principles of a marital relationship with her.

He never expected his sweet girl to just agree.

Waking up to find her caring for him was the first surprise.

Her peeling fruit for him was the second.

Her not objecting to any of his arrangements was the third.

The surprises were piling up, one after another, making Yorath feel as though he were in a dream.

"You promised."

"Mhm."

"Then come up here. Lie down with me for a bit."

Ottilie glanced at the bed.

Yorath instructed, "Lie on my chest."

Just as she was about to refuse, a knock echoed from the door.

She stood up. "I'll get it."

Walking into the living area, she opened the door to find Nyssa Tarrant standing outside.

Nyssa was wearing a white off-the-shoulder dress. Her head was wrapped in bandages, her makeup kept light to accentuate her sickly appearance.

"Ms. Sewell, is Yorath awake? I came to see him."

Ottilie stepped aside to let her in. "He just woke up."

Stepping into the room, Nyssa saw Yorath leaning against the headboard. He looked weak, yet his eyes were sharp and vibrant.

Sitting on the edge of the bed with her back to Nyssa, Ottilie remained perfectly still.

She took a bite of the fruit herself, then offered another slice to Yorath.

Nyssa said, "Yorath, I've been with the company for years. Even if I haven't achieved massive success, I've put in the hard work and made the company a lot of money. Now, I want to strike out on my own. Will you let me go?"

Ottilie's hand paused slightly.

Nyssa wanted to run away.

Yorath asked, "Why the sudden urge to go solo?"

"You know how I feel about you," Nyssa replied, her voice trembling as she neared the end of her sentence. "Now that you're married to Ms. Sewell, where does that leave me? A graceful exit is the best outcome for me."

She sounded as if she were about to cry, yet she was desperately trying to hold it in.

Nyssa was a phenomenal actress. She knew exactly how to weaponize a man's guilt and sympathy.

Any man would crumble under the tears of a woman who had genuinely loved him for years.

She gave Yorath a tearful, lingering look before lowering her head in submissive grievance.

She looked utterly pathetic, the very picture of a damsel in distress.
