Ottilie rushed to the restaurant at breakneck speed.
She had booked the place herself.
Since both she and Yves were ordinary people without much wealth, the reservation was in the main dining hall, albeit in a relatively secluded booth.
By this time, the lunch rush was winding down.
Every other table was lively and bustling.
Only Yves sat alone in the corner, sipping a glass of plain water.
The sight made her heart ache slightly.
She hurried over. "I'm so sorry I'm late."
Yves looked around nervously. "Will you get recognized? Sit on the inside."
Ottilie slid into the inner seat. The high back of the booth successfully blocked out prying eyes.
Yves signaled the waiter to bring out the food.
Once the waiter left, he smiled. "I watched your wilderness survival show. It was incredibly well-shot. I had no idea you could thrive so well in the mountains."
"I was a wild child growing up. I've done a bit of everything, so surviving in the mountains was a piece of cake. Ha! Did you see how fast I climbed that tree?"
Her tree-climbing skills were actually honed at St. Dymphna's Psychiatric Facility.
At first, she used to try and run away every few days, climbing trees in hopes of scaling the compound wall.
Of course, she got caught every single time.
Later, out of sheer boredom, she just climbed the trees around the facility.
As long as she wasn't hurting anyone or setting things on fire, the doctors there ignored her.
"I saw it. You're amazing, completely worthy of being my idol," Yves said. "I stopped watching right around the landslide. I'm really looking forward to the next episode, but I'm also terrified. I can't even imagine what you went through out there."
"It wasn't that big a deal, just a lot of going hungry..."
Before she could finish, her phone rang.
It was her mother, Marie.
Ottilie had never known parental love as a child, and as an adult, she didn't feel any attachment to her family.
"Why on earth would you be transferred to..."
Her phone rang again, cutting her off.
This time it was Yvonne.
"Ma'am, regarding the banquet tonight, the catering, drinks, and appetizers..."
The food arrived, but Ottilie spent the next ten minutes on the phone.
When she finally hung up, she felt too ashamed to even look at Yves.
"I am so, so sorry. I've done nothing but make you wait."
"It's perfectly fine. You're busy, I understand." Yves knew she hadn't even reached the peak of her schedule yet.
Once her career really took off, securing a meeting with her would be nearly impossible.
"When is your next day off?" she asked. "I'll carve out an entire day. No work, no distractions, just catching up with you."
Yves was just about to answer when her phone rang yet again.
