He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 283

She was about to decline the call, but seeing it was Yorath, she answered.

"Is Mr. Walden there?" Yorath asked.

"Yes, we're having lunch."

"Then invite him to the Summer Garden Soiree tonight."

"He's moving tonight."

"Moving is his business, but inviting him is ours. Mr. Walden has helped you a lot; it would be impolite of us not to extend an invitation."

Reluctantly, Ottilie turned to Yves. "Mr. Fordham is inviting you to the Soiree tonight. Would you like to go?"

Yves smiled. "Of course. It would be my honor."

"But... aren't you supposed to be moving? Won't this hold you up?"

"It's fine. I'll have a moving company handle it, and the school has people to receive my things. I'll just drive down first thing tomorrow morning."

Only then did she speak back into the phone. "He said yes."

By the time she hung up, the food was nearly cold.

The meal was entirely unenjoyable.

By the time they parted ways, it was already 2:00 PM.

At the hotel.

Nyssa paced back and forth in the living room, occasionally trying to call Kendrick.

Bryce Cameron sat on the sofa, nursing a cup of tea, his brow furrowed.

Tired of pacing, Nyssa collapsed onto the couch. "Kendrick has been unreachable for a whole day. Do you think someone secretly snatched him?"

"He's probably just hooking up with some girl, phone died, and he didn't notice," Bryce replied dismissively.

Furious, Nyssa snapped, "Look at the timing! He still has the mood for that? Yorath is investigating all of us right now, and he has zero sense of urgency!"

"The more critical the situation, the calmer and more natural we need to be. Panic is what leaves a trail," Bryce reasoned. "What happened three years ago was flawless. If Yorath could've dug up the truth, he would've done it back then. That ship has sailed. The evidence is gone. What could he possibly find now?"

She knew exactly how arrogant men like Yorath and Jevon were.

As long as she maintained her dignity, they gave her some respect. The moment she lowered herself and threw herself at them, she would become worthless in their eyes.

Wasn't that exactly how Ottilie kept Yorath's heart firmly in her grasp? By holding her ground?

Thinking of this, Nyssa ground her teeth in pure resentment.

A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.

She opened it to find Shawn standing outside.

She offered him a sweet smile. "Shawn, you're here."

"Yeah. I heard Ottilie was planning to make things difficult for you tonight, so I'm coming along as your knight in shining armor. She wouldn't dare touch you with me around. And as for Yorath, I'm his brother-in-law. What's he going to do to me?"

Shawn puffed out his chest, brimming with false bravado.

Nyssa feigned a shy blush. "Mhm. I know you'll protect me."
