He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 284

Feeling terribly guilty toward Yves, Ottilie insisted on walking him to his car as they parted.

Suddenly, the door of a vehicle parked on the street swung open.

Soren stepped out and bowed to her. "Ma'am, Mr. Fordham sent me to pick you up and offer Mr. Walden a ride as well."

"I brought my own car, so I won't trouble you," Yves replied.

Soren gave a polite nod to Yves before opening the back door for Ottilie.

"Ma'am, you're a public figure. Standing out here will attract attention. Please get in."

She had wanted to chat with Yves a little longer.

But hearing this, Yves didn't even wait for her response. He gently urged her toward the car. "That was an oversight on my part. Please get in. We'll see each other later tonight."

"Alright. See you tonight." Having no choice, Ottilie got into the car to follow Soren back.

Before she even arrived, Yorath had already received a full audio recording of her and Yves's conversation at the restaurant.

He listened to it several times on loop.

Jevon came in from a smoke break outside just in time to hear the recording of their goodbyes.

Slumping into the chair opposite Yorath like he had no bones, Jevon chuckled.

"Keeping her on that tight a leash? She's as timid as a mouse. Are you seriously worried she's going to cheat on you?"

"She's not that kind of woman," Yorath replied flatly.

Jevon fell silent.

If she were that kind of woman, she would have sucked up to Yorath a long time ago and drained his bank accounts.

In a year or two, she could have walked away with more money than she could spend in a lifetime.

Ottilie had a million flaws and wasn't even particularly special.

But Yorath was obsessed with her, plain and simple.

"The video was sent to you," Jevon said, shifting the topic. "I didn't watch it. I handled it personally and didn't let anyone else touch it. I also warned Dr. Thorne that if he dared to take even a single peek, I'd gouge his eyes out."

Yorath had received the file a while ago.

He hadn't clicked on it yet.

The thought of what Ottilie had endured at St. Dymphna's required serious mental preparation, even for a man made of iron.

Jevon sat in the study for a few more minutes before taking his leave.

Yorath finally clicked open the video files.

It was a flash drive full of experimental procedures.

In many of them, Quentin was conducting the procedures himself.

When she pulled into the driveway and stepped out, she held the flowers tightly.

She noticed Yorath and Yvonne standing on the porch, dressed impeccably, as if waiting to receive a highly distinguished guest.

The only person who could warrant Yorath coming out to greet them personally was his grandfather, but she knew the old man would never attend a small gathering for younger people.

"Are we expecting a VIP? Should I wait by the door to welcome them?"

She walked up the steps, bouquet in hand.

Yorath glanced at the flowers, the corners of his lips curling up slightly.

"You are the most precious person in this house. I came out to welcome you."

He smoothly plucked the bouquet from her arms and pulled her up the rest of the steps.

He thought to himself that all his doting hadn't been in vain. She went out to meet another man, but she still remembered to bring flowers back to coax him.

"I love the flowers."

She blinked, glancing at the bouquet, then back at him.

"You like sunflowers?"

She had never known him to care for flowers at all.
