However, absolutely no one paid him the slightest attention.
The men just kept their heads down and worked in dead silence.
Nobody can face death calmly, especially not such a pointless, brutal one.
Dr. Roland screamed hysterically, "I didn't hurt anyone! I didn't hurt your boss's wife! I just gave Nyssa some medication! What are you doing? Murder is a crime!"
Yvonne reached down, grabbed Dr. Roland by the collar, and hauled him out of the pit like a ragdoll, tossing him next to the car.
Dr. Roland was so terrified his legs turned to jelly, and he collapsed to his knees on the ground.
The back door of the car opened. Yorath sat inside, his long legs elegantly crossed.
His sharp, narrow eyes flicked down to Dr. Roland.
He didn't utter a word, but the crushing aura of dominance radiating from him was enough to freeze a man's blood.
"I'm only asking this once. The antidote to my wife's virus?"
His hands violently shaking, Dr. Roland fished a pen and paper out of his pocket and scribbled down a massive string of data. He offered it to Yorath with trembling hands.
Yvonne took it first, using a handkerchief to hold the dirt-smudged paper before presenting it to her boss with both hands.
Yorath bypassed the handkerchief entirely, taking the paper directly. He glanced at it once.
"Drag him back down. Bury him."
Yvonne gave a crisp nod and kicked Dr. Roland straight back into the pit.
Dr. Roland let out a horrific shriek. "What are you doing?! I gave you the formula! Why are you still trying to kill me? You're completely unreasonable! This breaks all the rules!"
The men resumed shoveling dirt, rapidly burying him.
They buried Dr. Roland until only his head was above ground, terrified to the point that he passed out entirely.
Yvonne hauled him out again and dumped a bucket of freezing water over his head.
When he woke up sputtering, they forced him to write it a second time.
There were two discrepancies between the second formula and the first.
Yorath's lips curled into a dark smirk. Without even glancing at Dr. Roland, the doctor was tossed back into the pit.
This horrifying cycle repeated over a dozen times. Finally, Dr. Roland lay sprawled on the ground, completely out of tears and out of breath, sobbing into the dirt.
He abandoned all arguments about honor, law, or morality. He just begged.
