"It doesn't matter. He'll be back inside soon enough."
As Yorath finished speaking, he noticed Jevon staring into the hospital room. Turning around, he saw that Ottilie was awake.
She had untied the restraints holding her down and was sitting up in bed, staring blankly at the wall.
She looked like her body had woken up, but her soul was still miles away.
Yorath gave Jevon a look, signaling him to leave.
"I'll go keep an eye on that guy at The Empyrean for you," Jevon offered, "so you don't have to worry about it."
The ICU was heavily soundproofed.
But Ottilie managed to read Jevon's lips clearly forming the words *The Empyrean*.
As for the rest of what he said? She couldn't catch it.
She had played a mute character once and picked up a bit of lip-reading for the role.
She could only decipher words she was already familiar with.
A few seconds later, Yorath walked in carrying a massive bouquet of flowers.
They were the yellow sunflowers Jevon had brought.
Yorath set the vase on the nightstand and sat by the edge of her bed.
He stared deeply into her eyes for several long seconds before asking, "Are you fully awake, or are you still dreaming?"
"I've been sick for a long time. Thank you for the trouble." Ottilie had drifted in and out of consciousness for days, completely losing track of time.
But the stiffness deep in her bones told her she had been out for a while.
"You are my wife. Taking care of you is my duty and my responsibility. Are you really going to be this formal with me? Are you treating me like a stranger?"
He said the words with such profound, aching devotion.
Like he actually meant every syllable.
But Ottilie didn't believe a single word.
"Yorath, I'm better now. You don't need to stay cooped up in the hospital with me. I can take care of myself. If you have work to do, you should go do it."
Every time she woke up, he was right there. Seeing him so much was honestly just exhausting.
Yorath gripped her hand, refusing to let go. "As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing in this world more important than you."
Ottilie didn't say anything to that.
