Chapter 123

Chapter 123

Lyra drifted along the inner side of the Ghost Wall, her soul’s vision letting her see every face with perfect clarity.

After searching for over two hours, not a single one matched.

Jane drifted over from the other side. “I didn’t find anything either.”

Lyra looked up toward where the Ghost Wall stretched. In the gray mist, souls formed an endless arc, spreading out on both sides as far as the eye could see.

The Ghost Wall was circular, surrounding the entire Wraith zone.

The Sunvale Wraith zone had a radius of over fifty miles, a circumference of more than three hundred miles, and a depth of thirty-three feet. Nobody could even guess how many souls were inside.

“Jane,” Lyra called out.

“Yeah?” Jane replied.

“If we keep searching like this, we might not even finish before the game starts. Lyra said.

Jane didn’t argue.

Lyra’s soul hovered in place, with the endless Ghost Wall stretching out on both sides. Gray mist churned ahead, and behind her, a silent crowd of souls stood in line.

That face from her dream floated up in her mind again.

Her lips moved, but she didn’t tell Lyra where she was, no directions, no location, just softly calling Lyra’s name.

Lyra wondered, ‘But how did she even find Sunvale?’

She had always trusted her gut. Her instincts had never let her down.

Lyra hovered in midair, and Jane turned her head to look at her. Lyra closed her eyes.

She didn’t think about how long the Ghost Wall stretched, how many souls filled it, or the three hundred miles of circumference.

She focused only on that face, remembering how she’d drawn closer to it in her dream.

The image in her mind kept sharpening. The face shifted from blurry to crystal clear, she could see every strand of hair.

Lyra moved, letting her instincts guide her as she retraced the steps from her dream.

She floated to the left.

Jane watched Lyra, eyes closed, glide left at a steady pace, her direction certain, no hesitation. Jane stayed silent and followed.

The two souls traveled along the inner side of the Ghost Wall, Lyra leading with her eyes shut, Jane trailing behind with hers

open.

Inside the Ghost Wall, lines of souls, men, women, young and old, moved aside, drifting back to make way.

One minute passed.

Three minutes passed.

Five minutes passed.

Lyra’s pace shifted, slowing from steady to sluggish, getting slower and slower.

Finally, she stopped.

I’m here. Lyra felt it in her bones. No logic, no evidence, just a gut feeling she’d found the spot.

Lyra opened her eyes. Right in front of her stood the soul of a long-haired woman, her shoulders wedged between two per

souls, her face turned outward.

She had a slender face, long hair, and was about thirty, exactly like the woman from her dream.

But she looked way weaker than in the dream. Her soul’s outline trembled, cracks spidering along the edges, and she was so see-through she seemed ready to fade away.

In the dream, her lips had been moving, calling Lyra’s name. Now, her mouth was shut, blending in with all the other souls

“Jane.” Lyra called out.

Lyra spun around, her voice bursting with excitement. “I found her.”

Jane drifted over, following Lyra’s gaze. “Are you sure?”

“I’m a thousand percent sure! It’s her, absolutely no question!” Lyra said.

Lyra stared at that face. She couldn’t get it out of her head all day, and deep down, she knew without a doubt it was her.

Jane extended her soul sense, scanning the woman. What she sensed made her frown.

“Lyra, her soul power is really weak, even weaker than the souls around her,” Jane said.

“I can see that,” Lyra said, drifting forward and pulling out the Scrying Orb.

The Scrying Orb hovered in her palm, supported by her soul power. “Peeking into her memories with the Scrying Orb won’t drain her soul power or harm her,” Lyra explained.

“Alright, go ahead,” Jane said.

Lyra held the Scrying Orb up to the woman. The orb glowed, and images began to swirl inside.

Lyra and Jane instinctively leaned in closer, eyes wide with anticipation,

The image inside the Scrying Orb was razor-sharp. The first thing that appeared was a towering mountain, looming in the

mist.

Halfway up the mountain stood a wooden cabin. In the clearing out front, three women knelt on the ground, while an old man with white hair stood before them.

All three of them were pretty young.

The one on the left had long hair and a slender face, it was the same woman from the Ghost Wall, only back in her early twenties. Her features were soft and carefree, a world apart from the exhausted soul Lyra had just found.

Lyra’s gaze shifted to the woman in the middle. Her hair was pulled back in a low ponytail, and her side profile was crisp and striking.

Lyra’s soul shivered. “That’s Dr. Hanson, she thought. No doubt about it.

She stared at that side profile in the Scrying Orb. Dr. Hanson looked much younger than at the hospital, but her features hadn’t changed. Lyra thought, ‘It’s her. It has to be her.’

Lyra’s gaze shifted to the third woman on the right.

The woman on the right had a round face, her eyes with a playful upward tilt, and when she smiled, that little beauty mark at the corner of her eye seemed to come alive.

Lyra’s mind went blank. That beauty mark, the curve of her eye, that face. She could never forget.

She used to see that face every single day until she was seven.

“Mom?” The word tumbled out, so soft even Lyra could barely hear herself say it.

The scene in the Scrying Orb kept playing out.

The old man with white hair raised his hand, and the three young women spoke in unison. Their voices echoed out from the Scrying Orb, solemn and powerful.

“We swear this oath!

“With the Vital Flame as our fuel, and our souls as our shield!

“We will defend the land of Draconia and protect its people!

“Alive or dead, we never back down…

“Even if our souls are shattered, we stand firm.”

Their voices merged, the oath reverberating across the mountain valley.

When they finished, the three women lifted their heads, their eyes blazing with fjerce determination.

The Scrying Orb dimmed.

Lyra’s soul hung in place, completely still. The Scrying Orb slipped from her palm, spinning twice in the air before Jane caught it.

Jane called out, “Lyra?”

Jane watched as the soul power around Lyra trembled.

Jane called out again, her voice urgent, “Lyra!”

Lyra turned her head, her lips parted, then closed, then parted again.
