Hide and Seek: The Mad Girl Sees All novel Chapter 133

Chapter 133

Chapter 133

The first two dreams had both come true. One was about the Cursed Forest mission, and the other was about her aunt trapped in the Ghost Wall.

This time, though, she actually found herself searching for someone, something that really caught her off guard.

They always stuck together in the game, so why was she having a dream like this?

Lyra rubbed the corner of her blanket. Unless this round of the game was going to split them up.

At the Command Center, in the conference room.

Lyra sat at one end of the long table, with Lana, Ms. Reed, Garrett, and Lil Lily gathered around.

“That’s basically what the dream was about,” Lyra said.

Lyra spread her hands. “I hardly ever dream, but the first two dreams actually came true. So I’m starting to think this one might be a warning that this round of the game is going to split us up.”

“What do you guys think? Am I overthinking this?” Lyra asked.

Everyone was grumbling and cursing the game in their heads, but nobody spoke up for a while.

After a brief silence, Ms. Reed finally broke the tension, her voice calm and steady, “No matter what, let’s just assume the worst and prepare for it, in case the game really does split you all up.”

Lil Lily sat next to Lyra, nervously fiddling with the hem of her shirt. She’d only played one round of the game, always sticking close to Goddess Lyra. If they really got separated, what was she supposed to do?

Lana stayed silent for a moment, then suddenly turned to look at Lyra and Lil Lily.

“How’s your sense of smell?” she asked.

Lyra blinked in surprise. “My sense of smell?”

Lil Lily looked up, confused. “What?”

“Last round, you guys grabbed some perfume, right? Each of you pick a scent. If you really get separated, try to track each other by the smell, Lana suggested.

Lyra blinked twice. “Yeah, I think my sense of smell’s pretty decent.”

“But that only works if you’re close enough,” Lana said, then turned to Lil Lily.

“Lil Lily, didn’t you get a whistle as an item last round? Make sure to bring it with you,” she added.

“And the laser pointer too,” Lana continued. “Just play it by ear, blow the whistle or use the laser pointer to signal each other.”

Lil Lily nodded quickly.

Lyra nodded as well, but added, “When the game starts, let’s hold off on using the perfume, whistle, or laser pointer right

away.

“We have no clue what the next Wraith will use to track us. If it’s sound or sight, blowing the whistle is basically asking to get killed, and using the laser pointer is like lighting the way for the Wraith.” Lyra said.

Lana paused for a second, then nodded. “Good point. We’ll keep those as backup, only use them if we absolutely have to.”

“So what do we do?” Lil Lily asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Lyra started pulling a bunch of stuff out of her pockets, dumping them onto the table with a clatter.

There was the Wraithslayer, a Transform Card, a Decoy Doll, a Scrying Orb, a Token, and a Soul Deck.

She picked up the Decoy Doll and handed it to Lil Lily. “Here, you take this for now.”

Garrett opened his mouth to say something, but before he could get a word out, Lil Lily was already waving her hands and shaking her head. “No, no, no! Goddess Lyra, you should hold onto it.”

She pulled a Six-Faced Heart Die out of her pocket and waved it in front of Lyra. “I’ve got my own items too.”

Garrett swallowed his words. Both of them were contestants fighting for their country, if anything happened to either of them, it would be heartbreaking.

Lyra was still trying to hand the Decoy Doll to Lil Lily when Lana cut in, “You should keep it for yourself.”

Lyra’s hand froze in midair.

Lana’s eyes shifted to the stack of Soul Deck cards on the table. “Can only you use the Soul Deck?”

Lyra followed her gaze.

“If other people can use it,” Lana said, tapping the cards, “you could give Lil Lily one. That way, she’d have a soul watching over her wherever she goes.”

“Worst case scenario, the soul could help scout ahead or find someone,” Lana said.

Lyra picked up Jane’s card and turned it over in her hands.

“I feel like the Soul Deck is kind of attuned to me, but I’m not sure if anyone else can use it,” Lyra said.

She handed the card to Lil Lily. “Give it a try.”

Lil Lily gripped the card, copying Lyra’s usual move and stretched her arm forward.

‘Soul Deck, release!” she called out.

Nothing happened.

The card just sat quietly in Lil Lily’s palm. Jane’s portrait remained perfectly still.

Lil Lily tried again, a bit louder this time. “Soul Deck, release!”

Still nothing.

Lil Lily handed the card back to Lyra, looking downcast. “It doesn’t work for me.”

The tension in the conference room deepened.

Lyra took the card back, stared at it for a couple of seconds, then her eyes suddenly lit up. “Let’s try a different approach.”

She spread all ten Soul Deck cards out on the table. “Once we’re in the game, I’ll send all ten souls out to look for everyone.”

She traced a circle over the cards with her finger. “Ten souls searching at once, that’s way faster than I could ever manage on my own

Lana nodded. “Sounds good.”

Ms. Reed nodded as well. “Souls can go through anything, so they’re way more efficient at searching

Lyra grabbed the Transform Card and a blank Soul Deck card from the table, then slid them over to Lil Lily.

“Here, take them,” she said.

Lil Lily stared at the cards Lyra had just given her, uncertainty in her voice. “Goddess Lyra?”

“I have a connection with the blank card.” Lyra said, pressing it into Lil Lily’s hand. “As long as you keep it with you, I’ll know where you are.”

“And I figure the reason you couldn’t use the other ten is because I sealed them myself. But with this blank one, if a Wrath comes after you, try to trap it with the card.”

Lil Lily’s eyes went wide.

“And take the Transform Card too. If things get really bad, you can turn into a Wraith and hide,” Lyra added.

Lyra held Lil Lily’s hand, stopping her from pushing the cards back. “You can’t say no this time.”

Lil Lily opened her mouth, but after meeting Lyra’s gaze, she swallowed her words and nodded firmly.

Lana’s frown finally eased. “The blank card can sense your location? That’s a lucky break.”

Garrett let out a sigh of relief. “Things are looking up. Even if we get split up, at least we won’t be wandering around like headless chickens, at least we’ll know which way to go.”

Ms. Reed turned to Lil Lily. “Lil Lily, remember, if you really do get separated, first thing is to find somewhere safe to hide. Then just wait for Lyra to come find you. Don’t go running around.”
