Chapter 136
Chapter 136
‘Should we contact Lyra and let her know?” Garrett suggested.
45 you ha
‘No need. The countdown is almost at 20 minutes. Jane will head back to Lyra soon. If she’s already found a treasure chest and it suddenly disappears, she’ll definitely notice something’s wrong. Lana said calmly.
Lina stood in a kid’s room.
Pink wallpaper covered the walls. The bed was loaded with stuffed animals, picture books were stacked on the shelves, and building blocks littered the floor.
She crouched down and looked under the bed, nothing.
She opened the closet. Just a few tiny dresses hanging there, no sign of a treasure chest.
She ran her hand behind the bookshelf, but came up empty.
Lina stood up and reached into her pocket, her fingers brushing against the blank card Lyra had given her.
She had no idea where Lyra was, or where Lil Lily was, or where Lydia and Sergei were.
Her eyes swept across the room, finally landing on a box of watercolor paints next to the bookshelf. She walked over, picked up a yellow paintbrush, and drew a simple cat on the south-facing wall.
It had a round head, triangular ears, and three whiskers on each side of its mouth.
Lina stepped back to look at her work. She thought, ‘Lyra will understand. The soul inside that ambercat is Ivana from our
country.
Lina left the paintbrush behind, took a deep breath, and pushed open the south door.
Lydia pushed open a door and found herself in a gym. There was a treadmill, a rack of dumbbells, a yoga mat, and a full- length mirror hanging on the wall.
Her eyes swept around the room, finally landing on a treasure chest in the corner.
Lydia wondered, ‘A treasure chest?’
‘Did I just find it like that?
‘Since when was I this lucky?”
She glanced around, her eyes landing on a body bar propped up next to the dumbbell rack.
She picked it up, tested its weight, then gripped the bar in her left hand and Shadowcleaver in her right, slowly edging closer to the treasure chest.
She carefully used the end of the bar to pry open the lid. The moment a gap appeared, a black snake shot out, fast as lightning, aiming straight for her face.
Lydia’s body moved before her mind could react. She swung Shadowcleaver in a horizontal arc, slicing the snake in midair. The front half smacked into the mirror, while the back half hit the floor and kept wriggling.
Lydia stepped back twice, eyes locked on the snake. Once it finally stopped moving, she used the bar to flip the lid open all the way The chest was empty, nothing at all inside.
Chapter 136
Lydia was so done. She stared at the empty chest.
She kept staring. Is this what counts as finding a treasure chest? Seriously, not even a single hint from the game? Lydia grumbled to herself.
She searched the room, but there was no second chest anywhere. Frustrated, Lydia gave the chest a hard kick, shatched up the body bar, and headed for the west door, shoving it open.
The Draconia Live Channel chat exploded again!
[momo: A snake?! There was a snake in the chest?!]
[BornToCuss: Game devs, are you even human? An empty chest is bad enough, but now you’re stuffing snakes in there?!]
[Another DayAlive: Lucky Lydia was quick, anyone slower would’ve been snake food!]
[LyraSuperfan: Does this even count as a treasure chest? There’s literally nothing inside! At least Goddess Lyra’s note said i wasn’t a prop, but does the snake count as a prop or not?]
[LuckyKoi: I’m telling you, this game is so dirty, no way it counts.]
[Veggie Edition: Quick recap: so far we’ve got 1. Empty chest with a troll note, doesn’t count. 2. Snake chest, probably doesn’t count. Is there a third kind out there?]
[GoDraconia: I’m seriously worried about what might jump out of the chest Lil Lily finds…]
[No More Nutrient Drinks: Stop, stop, I’m already getting scared.]
[BornToCuss: Game, fuck you!]
[AnotherDayAlive: Wait, look at Sergei!]
Sergei stood in a wine cellar.
The walls were lined with racks, bottles packed together, red wine, brandy, whiskey, some vintages older than he was. The air was thick with the smell of oak barrels and alcohol.
Sergei swallowed hard. He hadn’t had a drink in ages, but just being here was enough to wake up his inner boozehound.
He reached out and touched the nearest bottle. It was cold to the touch, and the label read 1982 vintage Bordeaux.
He sighed, set the bottle down, and thought, ‘Nope, can’t drink. Better not mess things up now.
Sergei thought, ‘Drinking always gets me into trouble.
Back in the last mission, he’d had cake and a milkshake with Lyra. But without Lyra beside him, he didn’t dare drink. What if it’s poisoned or causes hallucinations?’ he worried.
Sergei pulled his hand back and started searching for the treasure chest in earnest.
Nothing behind the wine racks.
No secret compartments in the floor.
The wooden barrel in the corner? Solid.
Not a single treasure chest in the whole wine cellar.
Chapter 136
Sergei stood in the middle of the room, staring at the countdown on the wall.
[Hideout countdown: 21 minutes and 09 seconds)]

His eyes drifted back to the wine racks. After hesitating for a while, he finally found an empty metal flask in the cellar. unscrewed the cap, and sniffed it, clean.
Sergei grabbed a bottle of whiskey, pulled out the cork, and poured a full flask. He screwed the cap back on and tuckedht into his coat pocket.
